How large is the genset? What else is on the NG? Is the meter sized to take the additional flow and inrush of the genset starting?

I went through a similar calc when installing a large tankless heater at a friends house. Most of the cost was tied up in making the gas part right. The heater used about 200K btuH and had a sizable inrush moment and also had a low pressure shutoff that could be sensitive to other inrush or flow on the system, in their case from the spa heater.

Took me the better part of two days to do the whole job. I upsized their meter to attic trunk to 1 1/4" from 3/4" to solve the inrush problem. That was the main expense. The rest was typical plumbing and electric.

If the NG has a smart meter it might tell on you when you shut the gas off at the meter to invade the piping. YMMV.

I'd quote time and materials at the usual shop rate; if a not to exceed, figure two man days of work plus materials. Permits/inspections and labor associated with them extra. IIRC, I charged about 1500 for the heater install but that was about a decade ago. Worked out great. Friend gave me the working 35kbtuh 75 gallon commercial stand heater as extra.
