Me too so I was keeping an eye on the northern sky last night but to no avail so off to bed a little after 10:00p.m. About an hour later and still awake, I looked out the window from my bed and it was on!

Woke up the wife and we spent the next hour sitting outside taking it all in. Hues of crimson and pale streaks of white light painted the northern horizon. The patterns of light would shift in appearance slowly, build up then wain, then build up again. It was quite the celestial extravaganza!

Apparently, predicting how far south the aurora borealis will appear is an inexact science but reports were that the light from this geomagnetic storm might show at our latitude. We're situated in the boonies of the southern parts of the Pacific Northwest. Seeing the the northern lights has been a bucket-list item but I never thought I'd see it from my own home.

...and to think I almost missed the entire thing!

We got some fun pictures using the auto night feature on an iPhone. To the naked eye everything but the city was pitch black. Read a tip on this didn't know you could this. It was pretty cool.

Of course, first period in months for consistent non-rainy weather and the nighttime fog shows up ?
