The only thing its based on is that someone?s willing to pay close to $60,000 for one right now.

Correct. Except today it's almost $67,000. It's based on blockchain software technology, a transparent ledger, and much energy has been and will continue to be invested in it's mining, operation, administration, verifications, etc... and it is a global, decentralized network.

Tell me how Bitcoin got started and what solid money backs it? Dollars? Gold? silver?

Tell us what now backs the U.S. Dollar?

Nothing. And since so many new dollars have been printed within the last five years, alone, a quantity that rivals what was printed in the previous 100 years... where's the value in that?

It's all a shell game at this point, but one we are HEAVILY invested in for day-to-day life in these United States.

How does anything work, today, with the power out and the internet down.

        It doesn't.

Keep your pencils sharp, a pad handy and some cash accessible along with your precious metals lead, copper and brass.

I remember, in '96, when the Christmas Tree at the starting line went dark while I was at the front of the staging lanes as Sac raceway near Mather AFB. We waited a bit and the track owner gave us the bad news.... wide spread blackout.

I was lucky. I always topped off the truck with fuel before getting to the track because I was a couple hundred miles from home.

Power was out in/near the rural town where I lived for nearly a week. Other parts of the country and world were fine but our area was in the 19th century.

I was fortunate, since I had a machine shop on the property and had a big generator to run it, being a long-time prepper, and my mobile and ag equipment all ran on diesel so had plenty of that. I was the only lights in the area for that time, which kinda surprised me. I figured other farmers had generators. Maybe they did but didn't advertise it with lights.

Anyway, life went on. Of course that was pre-internet. I had only discovered dial-up at that point and had an early Mac Power PC in the shop. No cell phone yet. The phone company operated the twisted pair on batteries so we didn't lose phone.

My point is one can lose power locally and still be cut off from the world, depending on how that goes. I note the cell towers where I live now last a couple hours then go dead in long outages.

Where I live, people trust cash and barter. I barter a lot. IMO, go with what works for one in their locale. If that's crypto, go with that. Where I live, crypto would be meaningless and is currently meaningless not because it's bad but because people don't use it.

All of the above references the topic of this forum, survival and prepping, a far different milieu than everyday life. Emergency preparations. I've been doing that for over 40 years now. The particulars depend on stage of life and locale IMO.
