There a lot on gov planet up for auction starting price from 2250 bucks. These have to be registered as historic vehicles . They do not pass smog. Cannot use for commercial use. My son bought a seven tonner with 10 liter multi fuel turbo . Thought he could rent to studios for logistics support . It is 10 wheel drive with huge tires.

What is a 4 foot by 4 foot by 40 inch fiberglass container that meets some military standard?

Well...sure if you want one that needs a ton of work. Auctions can start at $2500 to $3500 and up, but those generally need quite a bit of work to get running. Very important to check out every aspect from the tires to the engine. Haven't seen an auction in a while with a low starting point that has a running engine or is not missing parts - and local auto part stores don't stock Hwwmv stuff.

And the extra costs - like getting it home. You do not want to drive something that has sat in the desert possibly for years, 100 or more miles. Ours has been checked out front to rear by a shop that specializes in mil vehicles and I would still have to give a lot of thought to a 100 mile drive.

And Ca is cracking down on registering military vehicles. Not quite as easy as registering it as a "collectable or historical " Not saying it can not be done, but do your own research.

Trailers are another issue. I have bought two - both M1102 models. The Lunette ring is 29.5 inches high - and you will need a pintle hitch. I suggest you get a one day use permit from the DMV plus a cheap set of trailer lights/zip ties to get it home. On both of mine I pulled over after a few miles and used a infrared thermometer to check wheel bearings. Second one needed a quick road side wheel bearing adjustment to prevent the bearings from burning up. I also brought along a set of smaller wheels/tires and changed them out before the drive home.
