    Foot gear

I find that I'm in need of some "lightweight" hiking boots. I've taken to hiking 3x weekly with my GHB, and I find my current boots are just a bit too heavy. They're military desert boots and while sturdy, they weigh 2 1/2# each. That's each, not for the pair.
    So, any recommendations?

I like the lighter weight danners. Traditional leather upper with modern lightweight soles. Zero break in required.

I have an order in for Freestyle SA Combat Boots, not sure the weight but I'll chime in. Will probably be a while though since shipping from South Africa takes forever.

I like La Sportiva boots those are light weight.

I second the Danner recommendation. Got a pair last fall, put some good trail mileage on so far and still feel great. I NikWaxed in late spring and the leather took to it well. Not a mountaineering boot but great for California backpacking.

OP here. I'm somewhat limited by my foot size. For some time I've been using 14W, but goes a long way to limiting my choices. So, according to that, Danner and Kennetrek are out. They both max out at 13, according to their website.
I've actually gotten to the point that I will walk into a store and start with, "Show me what you have in a 14W, and we'll go from there". So, the search continues.

Sailorman, you may have to go the route that I'm afraid I'm going to have to.

Special order. Mine is not so much over 14w but two different sizes feet with a bunion on one and an long toe on the other foot.

See if there is a specialty shoe store or podiatrist that will help. Fortunately in my area there is a show store that the owner is a podiatrist that been helpful for my foot problems.

Just a suggestion. Best of luck in your search.

                Respectfully
                Kyle

They are the narrowest boots I?ve ever seen. I ordered the wides and when I got them my foot was wider than the sole and my feet aren?t even super wide.

Danners are a no-go IMO. Maybe the USA made Danners, I've never had a pair, but the non-USA made Danners I had only lasted a year and some change.

Kennetrek are great, lighter than they look, and overall a great boot. I also really like my Salomon Quest 4Ds, fantastic synthetic/leather boot.

I had a pair of Teva boots that were wonderfully light, but I only got a year out of them. I'll get three out of the Salomons and who knows how long on my Kennetreks.

I have buddies that swear by Asolo, but they don't fit me well. I had a pair of Kaylands I used for mixed ice and classical mountaineering, they were a good boot for a synthetic; but climbing/hiking volcanos finally chewed them up.

I guess at the end of the day I'm French and Italian boot kind of guy.

I like the Hi-Tech hikeing boots at Big5. They are really well made and I use them for work and eveything else. I get the waterproof ones. They last me just a little over a year before I toss them, but Im sure you will not use them as heavily as I do. So you should get atleast 3 years out of them.

So for $45bucks I think they are a great boot. Good arch, decent insole and wide for us wide footed guys.

Salomon speedcross. A pound on your feet is equivalent to 6 on your back. Going off trail in poky bushes? maybe some boots
