I live for Amazon price errors and, as one driver recently told me, they get paid by the hour so driving way out in the boonies is no skin off their nose.

I track prices on Amazon because their 'wish list' system works great for that and compare to other outlets and the local store.

I've also purchased Costco brands through Amazon and sometimes they've been less expensive than at Costco itself, plus there isn't a Costco within 100 miles of where I live anyway.

Those prices on the canned goods are at or just slightly higher than what I pay at the grocery store. Not a bad deal at all though. Mountain house stuff I have no idea.

I'll use a bellweather item due to the craziness surrounding eggs of late, Augason Farms whole egg product. Last can I bought, a year ago, still using it, was 33.08 for the #10 can.

Today it's a bit over 96 bucks on Amazon's site and 115 bucks on Augason Farms' site. Price difference, not that much; however, Amazon is shipping to CA but Augason Farms currently isn't. Still crazy expensive. The scrambled egg product isn't much better price-wise, about 57 bucks. I use powdered eggs mostly in baking.

Walmart.com has both products. The whole egg is the same as Amazon but the scrambled is nearly twice the Amazon price. Both Walmart and Amazon accept EBT; however, once must be careful about product selection; sometimes the EBT product is more expensive because a third party is the cheapest choice but not eligible.

It was a bit of work but through the generosity of the state of Oregon I filled up a couple of outbuildings with 'prep'. Being poor ain't so bad. I can still operate the machine tools in the alternative economy. The skills don't go away.

it's all very frivolous. they don't take it seriously. in reality, the non preppers outnumber the preppers so much, that short of living inside a bunker in the middle of nowhere, i don't expect preppers to survive a non nuclear long term shtf scenario. they're just too big of a target for everyone. i think the people that really can make it in a long term scenario are survivalist bushcraft mlitary/ex military types. literally john rambo-ing in the forest miles away from any signs of civilization

I don't get the Prime thing? I have never paid for prime and have never paid shipping from Amazon. They always give free shipping on $35 and up orders anyway. If I'm just under I can just add a coffee, toothpaste or whatever to bump it over and get free shipping.

If one lives off the Amazon grid so to speak, I noticed Prime turns a couple weeks into a couple days. That's the biggest difference I noticed in Oregon when going off Prime when money got tight post-Covid. IDK how it is where Amazon drivers deliver everything. For us, it's usually the harried USPS rural route driver.


For folks who are students or some sort of program like SNAP, Prime is about seven bucks a month. For adding to an already substantial inventory, not really cost-effective.

However, when needing a new well pressure switch not available locally and not in stock on the property, Prime got it there in two days instead of the 'free' shipping time and the shipping would've been more than the monthly cost for that month.

IMO, it depends on circumstances. I prefer to do business locally but with diesel near five bucks a gallon and town miles away I also look at travel costs and my time.

Lotta VERY rich people will be dirt poor on paper. EVERYTHING is "in a Trust" that legally isn't their property. That sorta came out when some Chi-Com agent girl was trying to push "Affordable Housing" into Palo Alto, claiming there were all these "low income elderly". Some widow of some tech exec or VC mogul will have "no income" but she rattles around in a house worth $5,000,000 and a full time staff of 6. There exist people that put EVERYTHING "in the Trust" the same way you might save and file receipts for your 1040.

Likewise any 1/2 of couples that aren't working and aren't married should be able to get EBT.

The Welfare Workers will just want you to say "All my food is kept separate".

Hang out with certain crowds and you will get offers to "go shopping" with their EBT card in exchange for maybe 1/4 of value in cash. IIRC CA EBT is $400/month per person or more.
