concealable body armor (NIJ IIIa or higher) warrantied for more than 5 years?

Can somebody point me to a NIJ certified concealable body armor (NIJ rating IIIa or higher), which is warrantied for substantially more than 5 years, assuming ideal storage conditions?

The warranties for concealable body armor made of common plastic fibers (like kevlar) that I was able to find are all 5 years. Do they have other materials used in concealable body armor that degrade substantially slower and are warrantied for more than 5 years?

I suspect 5 year warranty is the best you will see.

How durable is soft armor? Will your body armor expire? Get the answers from the people that make body armor here at RMA.

Shop from the #1 supplier of Government certified body armor to the general public. #1 rated manufacturer of soft body armor t-shirts.

Bulletproof vests can only last for a certain amount of time. After that time has elapsed, the protection that is offered by the vest may begin to diminish. You need to consider all of the factors that can affect the life of a bulletproof vest so you know when the time is right to replace your body armor.

Librarian and S.A.: thank you very much for the information!

The Shotstop body armor indeed reads interesting. Depending on the exact definition of "concealed", these 0.6 inch thick hard plate armor may be considered concealable, and they are warrantied for 15 years by the manufacturer, according to the information on the manufacturer's web site, https://www.shotstop.net/ . The manufacturer does not list these body armor plates as NIJ certified, mentioning, however, that they are compliant with the NIJ standards.

Its not that the armor is degraded to uselessness after 5 years, its mainly from a liability standpoint. Soft panels that are taken car of, cleaned, kept flat, kept out of extreme heat, etc. will last longer then 5 years. The 5 year is assuming you treat it like garbage and never wipe it down, and leave it in your trunk. My current vests have been with me for just over 8 years now, all 3a soft panels. Took one out last year and it did well. Contained 6 shots from a .30 carbine blackhawk with an 8" barrel from 25ft. Caught the 12g slug as well. Basically prevent bacteria build up, avoid exposure to high levels of heat, don't store it folded up and your soft armor will last you a long time.
