    This Might Happen To You

just watched this video and bought a pair and a fe2w boxes or steri-strips.
This guy made a great point. Just keep them with your fillet knife and use them.

I can imagine this happening im sure most. I have poked my hands with hand tools and knives (never this bad) and they hurt like hell.

There's a guy here that builds up and sells decent IFAK kits. Better than you'll find commercially in most cases. https://calguns.net/calgunforum/show...highlight=ifak

I carry two kits, one blowout kit, splint, tourniquet, Israeli bandages, Quikclot, the works and one more a household kit, band-aids, aspirin, moleskin etc.

Out wheeling or just camping, I really don't want someone rummaging through my blowout kit looking for Tylenol, hence the two kits.

Before a run I let everyone know where my kit is in my rig (pretty visible anyway) because you never know, it may be me down and someone else looking for my kit to save my life.

Oh yeah, Steri-strips are a must have item.

I saw that guys thread the other day.. saving up a little gonna get at least one.

So what do you do with the second kit? in the car? Just wondering about your statement about someone rummaging for pills. Why not just have a couple small ones with things like pills and bandaids on their own?

Just remember, if its the wearable IFAK then it is for the person wearing it. Now, every situation is different and you can adjust as necessary. But general practice for a Mass Casualty Incident is when the person down is wearing one, you use theirs to treat them. That way yours remains 100% intact if something happens to you.

If money is tight, you can save by buying nearly expired bandages and save some cash. Using expired items is frowned upon professionally, but for personal use there really isn't a difference if things were stored well. Then you can replace things as you want.

        Don't forget emergency shears!

Ive thought about this to save some $ but I dont know what items to buy. I guess I should start watching videos on what is supposed to go into an IFAK. I really would just rather get one from a person or company that specializes in them.

You'll find a lot of opinions about the "best" IFAK. But that's not always the way to think about it. Debates about the best caliber come to mind....

The best one is the one available and you know how to use. If everyone just carried a tourney, we'd be halfway there. Having all the latest and greatest is only significant if you can use them to their full benefit. Otherwise, it's giving a Stacatto to someone that doesn't know how to load magazines.

I started off with a tourney and Israeli Bandage. At least then I could address significant wounds in the extremities and the torso/head. They may not be the best for all heavy bleeds, but it was something. Plus, they don't take up a lot of space, so I'd likely to have them on hand.

I heard a rumor that the Quik clot power has fallen out of favor because they are a bitch for the doc's to remove from the wound in the hospital. Therefore, the quik clot bandages are now the go-to. Can anyone else confirm this?

That will usually happen to you if you try to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody with someone that really doesn't like it and tries to change the station when your hand was on the knob.

Word around the campfire is the concentration of the bandage impregnated w/qc puts the brakes on big bleeders more efficiently than just using the powder. Powder tends to flow out of the area in need. Blood can flush it away.

If you use rollers covered in qc you can still get the job done.

*I still use Kerlix rollers for packing big bleeders. Way cheaper and still very effective.

                      *just checked prices. Still cheap.
