    Foodsaver for ammo and food?

Thinking about using a food sealer for ammo and other supplies. If I use the same unit to seal food for long term storage is there any worry of some dust, copper, or lead in the machine that could seap into a bag from previous sealing? Thinking no...since it should be one direction, but it could be possible?

    Anyone worry about that?

No, you're always putting whatever you want to seal in a new plastic "bag" which the unit simply removes air and then melts the plastic together. It takes a little practice, but you can get good results pretty easy - just cover any sharp edges of what you want to seal.

I use 11" for my rifles. Works very well.

I use my foodsaver for wild game and fish. I typically double or triple seal. Hadn't thought about it for ammo, but not a bad idea

That's basically how PMC does it with their "battle pack." I have 1,000 rounds that came this way and I like it. The plastic is much thicker and more tough than Foodsaver bags.

I have a couple of their packs (smaller quantities) and the package is heavy duty and seems quite durable. It should last my lifetime.

As for the food saver, I don’t use it for ammo but I do use it for documents, small parts, med supplies, spark plugs, etc . for things I want kept clean and dry on the boat, the ATV, and in the truck.

Love my foodsaver. Used it to seal tons of other stuff other than food:

                    1. Documents
                    2. spare clothes
                    3. prepacked wheel bearings and other spare parts
                    4. ammo

The paranoia is large in OP. Been using for many years. We take our own to alaska to vacuum seal our fish. the processing fees and shipping from there is very pricey. I became an Alaskan air freight shipper to save money.

We use it almost daily to seal food and other items. The heavy duty bags work the best.

Our unit (a V3460) is in need of a new foam gasket. Foodsaver says this model does not have replaceable gaskets because it is glued in.

I bet I can change it anyway LOL.

I'm betting on you coming up with something MacGyver would be proud of.

Tube of Permatex gasket maker perhaps?

I use the food saver on all kinds of stuff, even meds. Dont see a problem with ammo.
