Finally assembling a First Aid/Trauma kit

With the BF deals and having some reward points, I decided to get a starter first aid kit going.

This is what I got: https://lapolicegear.com/elite-first...rauma-kit.html

You can see the contents towards the middle of the page. In addition to that I added:

    1) RCR Medical X8T EMS Tourniquet

    2) WoundSeal Powder

    3) SAM Rolled Splint

    4) Burn Spray

Anything obvious I'm missing or need to bump up the quantity? Should I get a snake bite kit?

    TIA

What's the use? Leaving it in the car? Battle belt? House? That changes the load out of what you need. Snake bite kits are worthless and if you think you need one, you really should read about them more.

I throw some bandaid in my battle belt kit and quick clot.

It would be for the house, but if we go hiking or to SSZS or the like I would bring it along. Accidents know no boundaries.

^ Most people say to just build your own. I got the one in my link and will just build onto it. Trouble is figuring out what you need above and beyond the obvious. But you might want to look into a trauma kit vs a first aid (boo-boo) kit.

This subject has been hammered out a lot here:

The list goes on and on and on...

All I carry is CAT Trourniquet. I dont get in many gun fights so i don't pack a chest vent seal. IMO a trauma kit is to keep you alive until you can get to medical help. Quick clot bandages are one thing I've been meaning to look in to but have not done it yet.

I like the AR500 IFAK's (NEW design - cost has come down, too!). That's EXACTLY what they're designed for; I have one on my chest rig. I have one CaT7 there, and one on my belt as well, with an Israeli pressure bandage in a HSGI polymer taco on the back of my belt.

Woundstop powder is useless. In a major bleed you won't be able to shake powder into the wound. Infused quickclot zfold gauze is preferred.i made the mistake of buying the powder too but the EMT on the course I went said you'll never be able to use it in reality. The powder will clump on the surface as you pour it on.
Is powdered QuikClot still available? I thought it all went away with introduction of gauzes.
I learned that QC powders required cutting-away of surrounding tissue by surgeons treating the wound and caused additional trauma while gauze could be pulled from the wound in 1 piece by medicos.

Rescue Essentials and Chinook Medical are top rate suppliers.

The days may be over when you could acquire normal saline and IV gear (without a medical certification), but there is lots to prepare for.

There was a thread here a few years ago from a member who cut his hand deeply while at work at a sheet metal shop.

He applied the QuikClot or whatever variation they had available in the shop med kit. He said it controlled the bleeding immediately.

He also stated the ER nurse was PISSED he had applied the clotting powder and made him pick it out by hand.

Maybe somebody with good Search-Fu can find the thred.
