anyone got a Baofeng Black UV-5R V2+ Plus?

    Amazon Link

Saw the posts about a UV-5R but for a few bucks more I can get a plus. Wondering really if the accessories for a uv5r+ still work with the v2, which seems the same minus some firmware. No reviews of anything thus far have specified either way if the v2 would or would not work. Even google search has failed me.

I don't see anything special about this one.

Uses same stuff as all the other uv-5 radios.

    I paid under $60 for the UV-5RTP (Tri-power 1/4/8 watt).
My kit came with radio, programming cable, speaker mic, ear mic, battery and charger. All this in a box with not so much documentation and some software (chirp is better for programming).

I'm licensed so I can use the power on 'ham' frequencies.

I would say that these radios are a little weak in the antenna department. I'm planning on getting the '701' antenna and adding another (maybe even a higher capacity) battery. I listen more than talk and get about 2 weeks to a charge at battery save level 2.

I made my own 6 foot antenna with the 8 watt version after my first one started acting up with a broken mic. Love the 8 watt version.

The newer versions have good antennas for there size but like they say size does matter.

I believe the two models use a slightly different battery in that it connects differently

Get the vanilla 5R for best accessory compatibility and price. Checked amazon for a friend today and they were under $25 with prime.

Best bang for the buck UV-5R, then upgrade to the big battery with the 12V port on the side & a better antenna - either a Nagoya 701 or 773 (adjustable). Since you're in the "Survival & Preparations" forum - buy 2. Once your comfortable with it and want a small upgrade buy a BaoFeng BF-F8HP (or 2) all the accessories will fit.

Part of getting comfortable with it is using it - so you will need to get a HAM radio license - which is easy and described in several threads on here.
