I count myself as extremely very fortunate to have developed a friendship with a rancher here in Santa Cruz, over a 10 year period.
Pig hunting with a depredation permit this Friday!
Price: some good whiskey or beer.
Shouldn't be that way for everybody. (edit: should be that easy for everybody)

Unfortunately, it appears the ranchers know what a guide will ask in dollars and so they do the same, if you are lucky.
I thought the President had some bill to encourage farmers and ranchers to make property available, not to long ago.

I am thinking about going out to Australia with my bow, my Single Six and my future .22 Magnum bolt action for shooting pigs out there. Yes, Australia is a crazy-*** British domain but I will have to see on a firearm permit before I go. I am seriously thinking about it. Kangaroo, pigs, rabbits, dingos... The shooting would never stop!

I have done the hunt you are talking about. You can get a firearm permit as long as you are hunting with a guide(not sure about unguided). I was in the NT and we shot Donkeys the most. They are freakin everywhere. You will probably want a roughly 30 caliber rifle as well. Donkeys are tough to put down although some of the time you just head shoot them.

I'm speculating that donkey tastes like horse. I'm not that hungry yet.

I understand that most US horsemeat goes to Germany, so somebody likes it...

Actually, Donkey meat is excellent (the young ones at least). Better then beef if you can believe it. I haven't eaten horse though

I guess I would have to take your word about the taste of donkey meat. I think I'll pass. I've hunted Tejon a couple of times and it was great. The people who work there were a great help. Steven and Cody and I can't remember the other 2. But it has been about 4 years since the last time I was there.
