I would fire center of mass on the animal.

What is proper guns and ammo for a charging griz?

    Pump shotgun w/ deer slugs?
    .357 Mag.?
    .44 Mag?
    .25-06 or heavier caliber rifle?

Like a zoo animals, you can turn them loose, but they keep walking around in the same circle like their still in a cage...

LOL... Well of course I did.... But I actually liked working patrol much more. I'm not a real suit and tie kind of guy. I preferred undercover and surveillance work as a Detective.

The one bear I took I used a Ruger SRH 44mag with Nosler 200gr HP bullets loaded hot. One shot and dead. The shot was thru the eye when it was treed. It was legal then. Hunted the same bear for 4 years before success. The bore was 15.5 years old and a B&C record book bear. Very large.

Bear are taken with a bow also but would not want a charging one when all I had was a bow.

                  Nice bear.

I knew some guys who took (at the time) number 4 bear in CA. It had been relocated from Yosemite twice for being a problem. It was on it's way back. Tore up a couple dogs on the final hunt.

Got within 6’ of a bear last year. I heard some noise in the brush and he was coming straight twards me. Instead of shooting it I took out my phone and got a video. Because I was so close I wanted the video more than the shot. When he finally figured out I was there he crapped himself and ran. Never for a moment was I scared. If you see a bear charging, throw up your arms and yell. He will turn tale and run.

I modified my Savage 308 Model 11 to take 10rd dropbox magazines just in case something like this happens (bears/wild pigs).

Absolutely not...a "deer" rifle is just that. Not sure you should attempt to shoot anything else with it.
