A lot of bang for the buck.
The last time my wife and I went, we organized our trip around a visit to a game reserve that I'd won at an SCI fund-raiser. We spent two nights in Durban and five nights at the game reserve. On the trip prior, we took a half-day guided tour or Pretoria, then took Rovos Rail to Capetown (three days, two nights) where we spent several nights in a B&B and hired a guide to show us around. Then we spent a few nights in a hotel in Franschoek and had a guide take us to several wineries.

On our last trip to Namibia, we rented a vehicle, hunted for a week, and then spent three days driving along the Skeleton Coast. It's one of the driest places on earth but it's also full of life.

Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing Fjold. Pardon my ignorance but are there Kudu in that region? Never hunted in Africa.

Do you get your shoulder mounts made over there or do you have a prefered taxidermist stateside?

Lastly, say you got a grand slam and decided to ship all 5 animals back to the US to get worked on. What would that price run roughly in your experience? Thanks again for setting the seed in my head.

There are Kudu all over RSA, but you're going to pay a bigger trophy for them. On their website they offer a 5 day Kudu hunt for $3,000. On the package hunt that they offered above, I would guess a Kudu could be added for $1,000 to $1,500 but you'd have to email them to confirm a price.

Check out our Big Game Hunting packages in South Africa. Choose from a huge variety of places and animals!

I've had most of my shoulder mounts done over here, Anthony Maxwell (artist but can be flaky to contact) up in Ceres did my Buffalo and Jerry Huffaker in Texas (2018 world Champion Taxidermist) did my Nyala and Bushbuck. I've seen some great work out of RSA and Namibia and it's about 25% - 40% cheaper than here in the states. A blesbuck, Impala spring buck will cost about $350 - $450 mounted in Africa and $450 - $600 here. Gembok, Kudu, wildebeest probably closer to $750 in Africa and $1,000 here.

But, the shipping box will have to be bigger for mounted trophies so it will probably cost an extra $500-$1500 or so for a bigger crate of mounted trophies. Airline charge by weight and volume and a Kudu mount from breast to top of the head in a alert position is almost 4 feet tall, when you attach the horns on, it can be 7'- high.

Euro mounts and photos are much cheaper and attractive in their own way

                            Congratulations!

I didn't want to steal your thunder by saying anything after you messaged me. You'll have a blast. Now comes the fun part of all of the planning and practice.

Buy three sticks of 1/2" diameter Bamboo about 7 feet long and use heavy rubber bands or a 1/2" wide strip of inner tube and some small screws or tacks to make some shooting sticks and practice, practice, practice.

After clients being arrogant, know it all *****s, the next biggest complaints that Professional Hunters have are that clients can't walk or shoot accurately (and quickly,) when required.

I 'm assuming that you're not the first part so work on the second and third parts.
