It will be just another excuse for the Dept of Fish and Fairies to reduce or get rid of our fishing and hunting. Yet they will raise the price of tags/stamps/lic so they can do butterfly studies and such.

I do not think people should go because you may be away from others ONCE you are there but consider that you will/may need gas, food, ice and such going or returning. That exposes you and others to the virus not just the people you are around but the fuel handles, change, counters and such that the virus can live on for 5 days.

My problem is that the brain dead, tree hugger, libtards running the dept and the ones making the laws(along with the other brain dead democraps voting them in) that effect us use it to shut down even more fishing/hunting. The dept is all political based now instead for scientific based

        Let me guess

due to unforeseen circumstances, 2021 licences will increase by $75 to cover the 2020 budget shortfall
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
        (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Why would they suspend fishing... You do it alone or with one person.... This state just has to make things more difficult than they need to be at every chance possible.

It's because there's probably 100,000 other people thinking the same thing these days. And when you have an extra 100,000 people in the field, you have to plan for the crap that goes with it.

Every move they make just concentrates people. Shut down business, people go to local parks. Shut down local parks, people crowd into state & national parks. Shut state and national parks, people crowd into forest land. Each level just makes things more concentrated at the alternatives.

Any solution that relies on humans not being humans is doomed to fail.

On another note, I heard that Stanford is starting its antibody test to determine if CA already had COVID long before the rest of the nation. If so, we might be a lot further along in this thing than we thought and may already have developed a herd immunity. We have a ton of air traffic and business with China and the rest of Asia and it was likely here much earlier than NY.

For months, doctors here thought it was just a really bad flu season. I know of several people who got nasty sick (including myself) back in early Feb. There were 3 kids in my son's elementary school class (10%) with pneumonia and at one point and nearly half the kids were absent. This was all long before things closed up in mid March.

All that to say that there may be no point to all this shutdown madness. I'm curious to see what the antibody test results show. But bureaucrats will do what bureaucrats will do. Makes you wonder if those checks and balances we keep throwing away were a good idea after all...

Do you just cut and paste that into every thread? Seems to me the field had no problem absorbing 100,000 "other people" before the China Flu fear was sprung on us.

Shutting down fishing and hunting isn't an answer to social distancing, it's a way these petty despots use trumped up fear to shut down freedoms amount the subjects.

There wasn't 100,000 "other people" before the current pandemic to absorb because 100,000 "other people" weren't out of work and looking for something cheap and fun to do every day before this happened.

Leave fishing open. I get closer to people at the grocery store. Just stupid. At the most limit fishing to the county you live in to discourage travel.

Yeah, that's part of the problem.

People aren't acting responsibly and as such we all get to suffer.

The problem isn't too many people fishing, the problem is too many people traveling for hours and interacting with people on the way. Then parking in a crowded parking lot or at a crowded trailhead instead of turning around and going home. Then finding excuses for why they just HAD to run into the bait shop (I used my last 2/0 and only have 1/0 and 3/0 left, I absolutely can't keep fishing without driving into town and spending 30 minutes shooting the **** at the tackle shop while I buy some new hooks). Or maybe something as simple as "there's not enough rail space on the pier so I just have to stand close the coughing guy".

So no, fishing isn't the problem, irresponsible people are the problem and we all suffer for it.

SF bay area parks have had their parking lots closed, dog parks are closed, etc. Why? Because suddenly there's a whole influx of people that need/want to recreate and they were using it as an excuse to come together "Of course I have to stand right next to this person while I talk to them, look at how crowded the park is!". Guess what, now we can't park in the parking lot or get into a dog park without hopping a fence.

Here is what has already happened with bay area people flocking to Clear Lake. People are at home with nothing to do. So they plan a road trip to go camping/fishing. Only problem is they weren't the only ones with the idea. They show up to a lake that has a crowd you would see on a summer weekend.

The folks in Lake County were understandably concerned with the large influx of people from out of the area who could be unwittingly transporting the virus. So, in order to protect the residents of their county, the Board of Supervisors elected to close all county camping and boat launching facilities.

Now Inyo and Mono Counties are predicting a similar influx, based on past experience. They have obviously approached DFW to ask them to delay the trout opener until this is over.

This meeting is simply a precursor to giving DFW the temporary authority to postpone opening days until it is deemed safe to do so. I can't believe the level of cynicism expressed here. Not everything the DFW does is intended to screw over the hunter or fisherman. In this case, whether you agree with their methods or not, I truly believe they are trying to prevent the spread of this virus.
