A-zone; especially southern A-zone, has absolutely HORRIBLE genetics right now. The majority of bucks are now "Pacific Forks" and will never amount to anything more than a 2x2. Also seeing a lot of very old 2x3s with extremely narrow spreads in southern A-zone. Harvesting the big bodied 2x2s and letting the ones with potential live is a very good strategy; especially if your desired outcome is a good hunt with meat in the freezer.

Thanks DD. We do our best, but we also share a fence with Big Sur Land Trust and get poachers every once in a while.

Saw my first two legal bucks of the season Thursday morning on private land. Didn't have a shot on either. Saw a really nice big bodied buck on public land this morning. Didn't have a shot today either. All of them were with does.
Going back after the public land buck in the morning and the private land ones on Thursday. Hopefully I will see one of them again and get a shot opportunity.
