Put on a backpack and move up a trail a few miles to get away from the people. The San Gorgonio Wilderness is the best kept secret in SoCal.

Yeah, I confess that I NEVER ever camp on the Kern River or anywhere around Lake Isabella. The Kern river is like a "sticky fly trap" for people. That being said, up in the vast and isolated areas of the "Paiutes" and "Greenhorn" mountains, camping with peace & quiet is awesome. It's pretty much isolated to yourself up there, year round. D

All the shooting areas in Big Bear are closed from the 'drought'. Just another reason to head further north.

Having said that about backpacking, it kind of sucks this year because the 'drought' is really a drought, and most of the high country springs have dried up. Carrying your water is a *****.

                  You are very welcome.

It's too easy now. When I was younger every time you clicked a shutter it cost you money (back when I didn't have much money to spare); and you had to conserve those clicks anyway because you never knew what dazzling sights would appear later on the trail and you didn't want to run out of film. Consequently it was actually rather a hassle to carry a camera on a hike and I rarely did so back in the day.

Now I carry a digital camera and take literally hundreds of photos every few months. That's probably a lot more than necessary, but it does mean I capture a few gems in all that.
