It's not completly illegal but it's stupid and irresponsible. The transportation of a firearm is pretty clear. So when you get pulled over and somehow he finds out you have a weapon your response is going to be what? I just didn't want to go thru the process of getting a LTC so I' am skirting the law?

    1. you're asking for someone to steal your weapon because you always carry it in your car. So what about when u go into a store or the gas station or work?

    2. you're gonna what... run to the back of your car and open it fumbling for your safe keys to defend yourself? Really?

Get a grip anyone saying this is a good ideas an idiot and not a law abiding, thinking , responsible gun owner but someone wearing a . and asking for trouble imho. Not meant to bash the OP but to give him sound advice. Get a LTC it's not that hard and will give you the tools you need to properly defend yourself and your loved ones.

So wrong on so many levels. It's hard to figure out where to start even, so I will not start.

Good point, and something to consider. Although common sense would indicate that if the driver can't reach it while driving, it should not matter if the seats fold down. But that implies there is logic in The Law, and in cops' interpretation of it. Not a good premise to bet your freedom on...

There is "Legal" and there is "Not Legal". Why would you equate "Legal" with "Bad Idea"? I don't understand that. If you are acting lawfully, you do not need to go above and beyond that. To do so is to start down the path of tyranny. Are you a citizen or a subject?

      2. More Blah

Hard to believe, but even more blah!
      D'oh! Der! Huh? What?

That's living in tyranny, folks. ^^^ That right there. Don't be that guy. Know the law and know your rights.

How about the guy that wants to carry at work but doesn't want to leave it there because he is afraid of it getting stolen? Commercial alarm response is pathetic where I work, no way I would leave my gun there.

How do you suppose you should get it to and from work?

Getting a LTC is not currently an option in Los Angeles.

I've considered this when making a GHB for my car, but I also decided that I would rather keep a firearm on me at all times since getting to my car during the weekday (while I'm at work) would be next to impossible if something happened to where we had to evacuate our building and get out of the area.

Since I work in downtown LA in a highrise building, and park 4 levels underground within that building, there's pretty much no chance that I would be able to get to my car if something happened, and we needed to evacuate the building and the area. Therefore, I keep my 'essentials' with me in my daily carry bag since that's with me at all times (driving to & from work, and in my office next to me during the day). I keep my gun in there LUCC and I will forget about it since it's so compact and light in my bag, but it's there if I ever need it, along with some other things (knife, flashlights, small med pack, crank radio, etc).

Saying this to someone who lives in OC is one step better than saying "move to a free state".

            I am surprised at Negolien.

Yeah, phrases like that really frustrate me. I had my CCW from back home in Florida before I moved here, I'm an Army vet, Certified Instructor, with not so much as a speeding ticket, and the OC Sheriff's Department told me that "Protecting myself, my business, and my family" is not good cause. Nevermind that I transport multiple firearms on a regular basis for classes, or that I have a long commute to and from work through less than reputable areas, and handle large amounts of cash. They were also pretty rude through the whole thing, and treated me like a criminal just because I owned a handgun, and with decided suspicion because I said I'd like to get an LTC. Hopefully that was just the particular Sergeant I was speaking with at the time and not the opinion of the entire OCSD.

I have resigned myself to not getting an LTC in California until something fundamentally changes. Until then, yes, I carry a gun locked in my GHB, and bring it into work with me. I'm of the "Have it and not need it" set.

A year or so ago I was thinking about doing this same thing with the same pistol (9mm Hi-point) but decided against it. My wife is an NRA certified handgun instructor so it had nothing to do with our ability to handle or use the guns. OK, my ability could be questionable but hers isn't. Anyhoo...

The reason I decided against it was the very purpose of a GHB: to use only for getting back home. That means a relatively short usage duration of a long day or maybe a few days tops. Why would I want a heavy gun weighing me down on the way home? How would we legally carry the guns without an LTC and without attracting unnecessary attention including LEO attention & drama? Now that AB 144 (open carry ban) is law, it is even more difficult to legally transport the gun on foot while also having it readily available and functional for defense.

I instead opted to include pepper spray and folders in each bag for defensive purposes: light, legal, concealable, easily replaceable, no drama. Even in the worst SHTF event that you can imagine, you likely won't see civil unrest and marauding criminal gangs until several days later, and by then, you'll be safely back at home with real defensive weapons (rifles and shotguns). If you live in, work in or travel to particularly dangerous places then maybe the pistols are the way to go. Otherwise, there are probably better areas to spend your money to improve your chances of getting home quickly, safely and without unnecessary drama.
