Being as how im no longer in PRK, im sure its only worth a mention, but im located in 54656 (Sparta Wisconsin). If things get SO BAD that you need a long term bug out, and need a place to go, CGN'ers are always more than welcome here at the Stormfeather Compound Family Retreat. . . As Ive said many times before, if you do come, bring a skillset that can be used, bring a gun, and bring your family, but leave your drama back on the west coast. We're serious about making it for the long run, and dont need those not serious or those looking for a hand out.

As I said, its just a random thing to throw out there for all of you guys, but in case of long term bug-out, its out there for you to consider!

Are you concerned that your fob is within 1 tank of gas of several very large cities?

Oh man! One less parking place in town! Looking for pointers in what to do around here? Independence Armory on the North Petaluma Blvd. is the best gun shop here, the one out on Bodega Highway, Freedom Arms I think it is called, is second in my opinion. Independence is very black rifle friendly and has a decent gunsmith and apprentice. Shooting range out in Two Rock West of town. Town is very liberal and the city council is a joke. I'm not into the bar scene but McNears/Mystic theater is a good pub that has good music, and there is a good Irish pub on Kentucky for a quiet pint most days.

                              Wet Blanket: Red Dawn Fantasy

Not to be a wet blanket, but I don't know that even partially depending on few internet "friends" who have a common interest in guns, maybe little else, does not sound like it going to work out all that well. I am all for being prepared but I would strongly suggest starting a lot closer to home. Talk to people in your family, extended family, long time buddies/ old friends. Get them to start thinking about pooling resources in the event of disaster. We have a plan, in fact, we plan for a couple of different scenarios.

I really don't want a bunch of guys around me, who I don't really know, in a high stress situation, who have lots guns and might be a touch on the paranoid side.... just call me silly.

The idea that many of the tin hat brigade (on this site and others) think that "bugging" out slinging your AK over your shoulder heading for the hills is going to work out well will likely get a reality check, fast. The folks in more remote areas are going to look at you as locusts, they have weapons and they rule their home turf.

If you gotta leave your home, talk in advance to family members in other states/ areas about mutual aid.

Guys please plan for basic stuff that is more likely to happen... like reaching retirement age and having enough financial resources to care for your ownself without being dependent on the public funds or family members. Here in the Bay Area major earthquake is probable, a nuke being popped is less likely... plan with emphasis on the more likely events

Probability of red dawn scenario is nil.... "Walter, Walter Mitty wake up its time to get up...

                                Charlie is a wize man

I think Charlie is spot on here.
I keep some food, water, batteries, gasoline etc. in case of an emergency. I'm not talking about a huge expense, total investment probably less than $150.00 other than ammo and generator. Most things are stuff that gets used anyway so I just keep a little extra on hand and if necessary rotate stock. You can buy big bags of rice, beans, flour etc. real cheap at Costco.
If there were to be a major emergency I will stay home, where I have neighbors that I know and trust, a garden and where my stuff is. I know that if things got real bad and strangers were about I'd be very suspicious of their intentions. If they were to come walking in heavily armed, alone or in groups the locals might be tempted to shoot 1st and ask questions later. (think real hard about how you will look with a pack on and heavily armed walking down the road)
If there was a need to "Bug Out" I would stay with friends who live in the country a bit. I would not plan to take my family out to the wild lands where it's likely to be chaos with people killing each other for food within a month or two and living through winter in a lean-to or cave.
