The Jetboil is awesome. After a very cold time camping in Wyoming with one not long ago, I wouldn't wish to pass over packing one. It is great for doing one thing very well, that is boiling water fast and easy in the freezing cold.

Its a great French press for making coffee too. Just dont put the coffee in 1st and boil the water with the lid on and the press installed inside your car. The following explosion and second degree burns HURT LIKE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winter camping at Hat Creek brings back some memories. Hypothermia is the big risk, especially if you're hang gliding from the rim at that time of year. No problem, note the judicious use of fire to keep the pilot warm:

Made it up to Lake Alpine this afternoon. There were CalTrans workers shutting down the road and a Sheriff. Talked to the sheriff and found out that they expect upwards of 6 inches of snow tonight. While I went prepared, I didn't want to deal with a small blizzard. Also, the fog up there was beginning to get thick and let's just say I know my limits.

Good call. It's snowing here right now and we've already picked up 2" since it started this afternoon. Winds are blowing as well. Snow + Wind = No Fun

I think it'll stil be frozen until the 4th of July. This snow is really messing up a lot of peoples plans.

Here is Lake Alpine today, 5/1/11 at around 1430ish.

I don't know, with another 6 inches tonight, if that happens a few times then don't expect much for July either.
