Patriot Nurse on drug shelf life

I have some thoughts...
1. Interesting video.
2. What's with the glasses?
3. I asked this same question to an MD and here is what he said..."It isn't that the drugs become ineffective, it's that over time there continues to be a chemical reactions in the drug that create harmful results." He did not say what those results are, but I would think that you could count on one of the following outcomes...
a. Chemical reactions create a byproduct that is tolerated by the body and is metabolized through the liver and kidney.
b. Those that have compromised renal and liver function may be affected by these chemicals.
c. In extreme situations, death may occur.
What would I do?
Rotate my stock if it is not cost prohibitive.
Finally, I would ask anyone...
Would you rather take newly manufactured Cipro or one that has been on the shelf for 8 years?sigpic
INGSOC comes to America.
Sip your Victory Gin folks, time's are a changin'
Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, A time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you

PC, great link brother! I am glad someone is looking into that stuff.
OHOD, I don't think anyone will argue with you about would you rather have new or older. The argument is really how often do I have to rotate and at what cost?John "the Rev"

I would too!
Though quite a horrible job in trying to do so though. This stuff scares me and what scares me even more is that some people may take this advice into their own hands and hurt their selves or someone else.
I guess it boils down to doing your own research on meds that you use yourself or are planning on using and using common sense.
I would agree though that if it came down to taking expired meds or dying, most would make the choice to do what they could to decrease the chance of sure death.
I'll leave you with this example. Your gallon of milk expired 4 days ago. Is it still good? The good thing about milk is that it's easy to tell. The bad thing about some meds is that you likely won't know until you have a bad reaction!...Robert...

There are specific medications you do not want to take after the expiration date. But on the whole, most medications are safe and effective to take after the expiration date has passed. In fact most can be taken years after the expiration date.
Yes, I'm a professional, but don't take this as medical advice, etc, etc.Certified RagaholicComment
