Surplus stores

south bay (San Jose) has 2 decent ones. Stevens Creek surplus on stevens creek and Mountain view surplus on bascom.

SCS has some surplus but mostly "outdoors stuff"

MVS has has far better selection of surplus gear at decent prices.

There is also a surplus store in Mountain View, that used to be affiliated with the one off of Bascom Ave. in San Jose.

There is Kaplan's in SF, but way overpriced. I know there is one on Haight as well but never been.

The one on haight is junk. Mostly "urban fashion" type stuff and knick knacks.
