Surplus stores are almost a thing of the past. I'm looking for one in the east bay.
I heard there is one in the Fremont area but have never been there.

I know it's way off from the OP's given range of travel, but Oceanside, especially the area right outside of Camp Pendleton has a lot of them

If your ever passing through Fresno, must stop by Belmont Surplus Store and Top's Military store, both have lots of reasonably priced items.

south bay (San Jose) has 2 decent ones. Stevens Creek surplus on stevens creek and Mountain view surplus on bascom.

SCS has some surplus but mostly "outdoors stuff"

MVS has has far better selection of surplus gear at decent prices.

Pretty good selection for bags, gear, and clothing.

I grew up in Placerville. Ed Arians Supply Sargent is the name of the place on Main St. Great selection last time I was there and very helpful staff.

Jack's been around a long time, used to be "Jack & Pats" on Thornton in Newark. Has quite a bit of Soviet stuff. Jack won't be around too much longer. I think he used to be a pirate or something waaay back in the day. If you've got the time to waste, sometimes you can cut a better deal if you listen to his yarns AND he takes to you. There's a decent Army/Navy store in or near Paradise. PAX

Definitely helps that there is a full blown Marine base there. Hehe.
