Scenario C. (What if the S doesnt HTF?)

After much reading about an ECO collapse I see a third scenario in which things just get really bad for us and no total collapse materializes. What if unemployment is at 30-50%. People have no money. Many people are homeless and are begging or stealing everything not bolted down. Food is very expensive and scarce. Fuel is very expensive. Nothing can be left unattended for fear of burglary or theft. Robberies for food and stuff to sell are rampant? The middle-class is wiped out completely and there are two groups of people the rich (politicians) and everyone else (the poor). Katrina showed us how some people will react when the tit stops giving milk. Hell even the Police were involved in looting. Other Police were stealing law abiding citizens weapons door to door.

What if something like this scenario lasted 20-30 years? Anyone see something like this happening if the Government keeps spending like drunken sailors?

This will be more or less the reality in the event of economic collapse. These things dont happen fast. It is gradual progression from having to not having.

We were there in the Depression, and we are headed there now.

Will the S hit the fan? That depends upon how angry the 'entitled' masses react to being cut off from their entitlements.

What you describe sounds like many third world dumps. The elite in guarded compounds and everybody else doing whatever is necessary to survive.

I think that's what they meant by hope and change. That would be as bad as a quick SHTF. If housing prices keep on the same trend it could be coming sooner than later. My house is down 30+ %.

It would be time for the 3%ers then . The people taken us down this path should be hung regardless of party. As it says in the constitution , if the government is corrupt / fails it is the right of the people to fix it period.

Did you guys see this bullsh%t ?

One thing to do in my opinion:

"Scenario C" is a scarily viable option.

I can see three general outcomes for the average Joe.

1.) Stay where you are. Try to wait it out. Live in third world poverty.
                  2.) Move to another country.
3.) Drop off the grid and live in the wilderness. Hunt and fish for food, maybe become a trader to try and keep some income flowing in case you have a situation where you need a hospital.

I think that the best option, would be as killlmime1234 says, would be to stay where you are, wait it out, and see where things settle down at. As long as you are in a viable location, have plenty of supplies, and can defend yourself, I see no reason to try and move out or relocate. Granted, as I said, having plenty of supplies means, food, water, shelter, and a plausible way to defend yourself. This can also be combined with his option 3, by becoming a trader to keep income flowing in and I think it is a possible good solution.

Except 3-4 guys could burn your out of your house and burn up all your supplies in 10 minutes. Then what?

                        Not my house.

But I agree that is a problem in california where most houses burn like kindling and are so close together that you will never see them coming untill they are in your bathroom......

You and your wife live in different houses? What city had double digit inflation on homes?

                            Wyoming. Almost any place.
She owned the house before we met. It sits vacant most of the time now. Only relatives stay there when they visit.

Again, not a problem if you have 2 people walking a perimeter, or even one person who can sound a alarm to get your other friends to back you up. This way it negates the issue of intruders. Plus there are simple warning systems you can put in place to let you know you have intruders, a simple fishing monofilament line with cans with rocks inside of them makes for a cheap easy simple burglar/intrusion device. Plus any good prepper knows not to have all their supplies located in one location!

Once again, this is true, and as you stated, in Cali, infamous for its tract style housing, it could pose a definite problem. Myself, located on the edge of town, its not so much an issue. Also knowing my neighbors and having good fields of view around my elevated property makes for a good location.
