20 years ago I made something like this for one of my dogs. I don't know how sturdy these are but they look like they might have room for 2-3 days worth of dog food.

I need something in miniature dachsund and chihuahua size.
In all seriousness, the only thing I would make my dogs carry is their own food/water. If you have so much stuff that fido needs to share the burden you probably need to re-think your loadout.
Also, I don't know if any of our labs would wear something like this willingly.RLTW

We have these for our Malamute and Samoyed.
When they see their packs they do the happy dance!
When we go hiking they carry water, some food, booties and a few snack bars for us.. Water constitutes the bulk weight.
We also throw in some extra emergency supplies that may be needed should we be injured. Amongst the medical stuff, my Mal carries an extra HAM radio, fire stick and whistle.
Watch the weight and keep it balanced. I forget the rule of thumb. It may be they should not be loaded with more than 25% of their own weight. Some big dogs can carry a bit more.
As for bug out purposes, my dogs will eat anything so they are just considered another family mouth to feed."The Right Of The People To

An 80lb dog can pack 5lbs of dog food without a problem. That's 5lbs not in my pack. Anyway I'm not a bug-out guy (bugging in) but I've ordered one to take a look at and thought I'd share the find.I need something in miniature dachsund and chihuahua size.

Don't forget a pistol with spare ammo for your dog. Seriously, why not?
I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

Have your dogs ever worn packs/vests before? Let us know how they respond to it. Our labs are all a bunch of rowdy goofs, they aren't trained hunting dogs, just beloved family pets. I can just imagine them spazzing out when all strapped up.
here they are:

This picture is old. Sienna, on the far right has since passed.
I wasn't knocking in OP, sorry if it came off that way.

Check for a snug fit without chafing the first 10mins. Make sure to see they're not overheating - panting heavily, dry nose. I wonder if a dynamic bungee type of straps are better vs. static nylon straps? Do they make camelbaks for dogs? Lapping water on the run?I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. As long as you work them up to the weight they do just fine. Remember they're just like us, gotta be accustomed to the pack weight or risk injury..overheating..etc.
Just like booties, keep their mind off of it. Put it on and go for a walk, toss a ball and plenty of rewards.
I got this pack for Soji at REI. The loops seem to be well made and in an emergency I feel safe with the handle to lift him or carry or let him down but after 3 years it's starting to show wear in the stiching.
brush seems to stick to the padded felt under the bags like crazy.

I have 5 dogs, mostly of the Chihuahua-type. The smallest weighs about 4 lbs. and the largest about 15 lbs. I can't imagine them carrying much. Maybe some ammo or a couple of beers.
Heck, I will probably end up carrying them.Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.Comment

Dogs as pack mules? Well, if it is sturdy enough, maybe it can carry some ammo in packs
