Just a zombie hunting FMJ round is under $0.50 each from the CMP

when buying in bulk, do you guys buy the expensive HD stuff like the jhp handgun rounds (speer gold dots, etc.) or do you buy the fmj range plinker stuff? I'd think it'd get pretty expensive when it's ~$20/20 rounds or so of the HD stuff.

I challenge anyone to outkill a 10/22 with a half decent shooter most kills in. 5 minutes They"LL smoke you on magazine changeouts amount of ammo you can carry hell with nice bull barell won't even overheat as fast speedloaders fill a 30 round clip in secondsseconds and if need be every Walmart Has a billion rounds in stock at all time. ....... with one exception as long as your only using civilian guns

P.s four pounds per 550 I know I can hoof 6000 rounds easy

Dont forget to find a trailer that you can strap to your butt.,

If your leaving you can only take what you can realistically carry., a couple hundred rounds at most., If your planning on staying in., you better stock up well and live in a siege proof castle., Shoot more then 50 60 rounds from your house and see how many people just dont notice.. you gotta sleep sometime., besides that., You can only guard in one direction at any given time.,

Thinking that your going to defend your home in a truly f'd up situation is just naive., firepower Vs mobility., a brick on the accelerator of an old pickup truck makes your house walls inconsequential.

And now that the attention is focused squarely on you.,., where you gonna go?

It depends on what your reasons for stockpiling is. If it's ammo for your own weapons, I'd load up in the 1000+ range.

If it's for bartering purposes, I'd grab a 100 or so of the popular pistol rounds. That would still be light enough to warrant lugging them around for a potentially very long time.

Didn't. Even think of THAT ( no kids of my own) but with 10/22 anyone can shoot it heck some 12-14 kids can outshoot me anyday. ( especially Appleseed kids lol) don't think I would want my kids shooting high Cal. That young ( not saying they can't. Just may be a bit much) but a good 22 shooting kid is just as deadly as a large caliber shooter shy of 200 yards

For hunting in a non zombie bug out yes you will need a bigger caliber to take most meat game unless your through the eyeball accurate or you plan on dropping 30 plus rounds and following the.blood trail for a hour

But really if your talking end of world with any less than 20 percent of population the ammo in circulation now will out last you for sure, finding it is annother story

If I was going to bug in I would do it in a ammo manufacturing plant never running out and have great barter power because I believe if shtf ammo would fast become The new curancy

For bugging in a good .177 air rifle and scope will be the best choice for meat hunting. Your quarry will range from birds to possums, rabbits and later on family pets. Very low investment, relatively quiet on day-break hunts. Not everyone is going to be on a killing rampage and most people that were good people before will remain basically that way, and even some who were not, will want to join neighborhood-family groups, church groups and folks trapped at work in order to survive. Task division will provide the hunter with watch and cover for a half hour forage at day break. A 25 pound sack of mixed bird seed -- larger seed attracts larger birds --to spread on a recoverable surface in a confined space will attract dinner so you wouldn't have to venture out to often. And, with that, I am reminded of a really effective way to capture small birds - sparrows to dove - without firing a shot that I learned a long time ago. Use a mouse trap. Spread seed and bread crumbs on and around the trigger and sit back and wait.

I wouldn't want to venture out when every one is up and scavenging in a lawless society.

Depends if your bugging in or bugging out realisticly you cant haul all of your guns especialley if you end up having to bug on foot i think one good defensive rifle ar-15, a good .45 and a small .22 hand gun or colapsable rifle for getting food items I.E small critters so you can conserve on your pricey ammo, good luck with this preparing your action plan is alot harder than it seems

                              ChrisO,

Thanks for explaining GHB; I haven't checked this thread in a bit. It's enough water/water filtration, food, shelter, survival gear to get one home from wherever they are. I'm roughly 20 or so miles from school to home and no firearms are allowed at school. If worst comes to worst, my roommate (who also preps) and I leave campus with GHBs and bug out to my house that's stocked with food, water, ammo, etc. One of my buddies uses a Jansport backpack for his GHB to/from work.

*DISCLAIMER* I am not a nutjob survivalist stockpiling for 2012 and Blue Helmets coming to disarm me. I'm aware of my conditions in terms of natural/man-made disasters in my area and prepared for them. Please don't put me on a watchlist. Lol.
