I read on a dirt bike web site (thumpertalk) that the Adventure Pass fines were voluntary and you did not have to pay them ? Of course the Rangers wont tell you that. I know that only half the Green Sticker fees go to OHV funds.

I knew this guy once who purchased the adventure pass, but alas, forgot to scratch off the day. That darned adventure pass seemed to last a whole year...

That is FUD. It is for all angeles forest that is on any dirt road. I have been ticketed a few times out in the middle of no mans land where there is little to no impact.

Here is everything you need to know. If you are disabled like me you will receive a pass for life for free. I sometimes forget my pass at home and that is when I get tickets.

The only FUD here is what you are posting. I posted a link and the section itself that QUOTES when and where you need it. If you got a ticket in a NON impact area with NO improvements then the cop that wrote it was an idiot and so are you for not fighting it.

            Nuff said!

I deer hunt the east fork of azusa every year and NEVER get a ticket. Of course you have to park well away from a parking lot or trash can. Stop and ask the rangers and see what they say. They have to tell you where the non impact area is.

Clearly from your side of the hill to mine is way different jurisdictions. they will cite you anywhere on the roads I hunt. I work 40 feet from the DFS office and they said if you are on a dirt road in LA county without the pass you will be cited.

Well they are ---->WRONG! There are a LOT OF MISINFORMED PEOPLE in the world. You spoke to some of them and they are wrong. They can write you a ticket all day long but its wrong and I would call a supervisor in and have them take the ticket back. Its IMPACT AREA ONLY with IMPROVEMENTS. There MUST BE IMPROVEMENTS.

If you are getting tickets I would raise holy living hell and call every supervisor for 100 miles. You are a fool if you put up with that crap!

Lets do a conference call right now to the ranger headquarters. PM your phone number to me now. Then you can come back here and tell everyone you were wrong. OK?
You may speak with a service representative Monday through Friday (except holidays) 8:00-4:30 Pacific time at: 909-382-2622, 2623, or 2621. Recorded information may be obtained by phone anytime at 909-382-2622 or 2623. You may now pay for your Adventure Passes using a credit or debit card.

                Fee Areas

The Forest Service has reduced the area in Southern California where the Adventure Pass is required. The changes are the result of the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (REA), which was passed in December 2004 as part of the 2005 Consolidated Appropriations Act.

REA allows the Forest Service to charge fees for--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> specific sites, and for heavily impacted recreation areas that have specific amenities, including toilets, parking, trash receptacles, picnic tables, interpretation, and security.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<-----

Oh OHHHH NON FEE SITES and AREAS

Even in an IMPACT area they have NON IMPACT. I hunt the east for of azusa and the road that brances off and heads north of the east fork road is NON impact. I have it in writing and post it in my window when I park.

MORE non FEE areas--------> all the green zones and light yellow shaded areas.

                OMFG more "GREEN ZONES"

Yet MORE green zones in the orange zones....holy crap.........

I could post maps all day long but any clear minded person would understand at this point.

Since the program was started more FS roads, trails, and campgrounds have been closed in my area. I haven't seen the value in the program one bit.

Buy the Adventure Pass and be done with it. $30.00 ?? Or, you can retain problemchild and whip out your peckers all together and enter a pissing contest that, really guys, just isn't worth it even if you could win.

Who are you going to scream bloody murder at when the washed our dirt roads aren't "improved" quickly enough for you this year? A road is an improvement over nothing, isn't it? $30.00 ?? Must be a full moon and female hormones kinda thing.

Im sorry did they leave the short bus unlocked again?

I already pay taxes and the rules are the rules. IMPACTED-IMPROVED--->ONLY, thats their rules. I play by those rules even though I disagree with them. I REFUSE to pay EXTRA, I refuse!
Just pay taxes twice and SHUT UP, just pay AGAIN AND SHUT UP! Is that your policy?

I pay gas tax and that pays for roads. I pay state tax and that pays for parks. I pay city tax and who knows what that pays. I pay TAX ALREADY I am not going to be forced into paying it again.

You might as well turn in your guns now because I know which side you are on and I know what you will do when the ban comes.

Last time I checked they have closed a TON of roads AFTER the SCAMVENTURE tax was enacted. Those roads are not going to open because I pay an extra fee. The state uses the SCAMVENTURE tax to pay for illegal alien women to have anchor babies.

                        READ AND LEARN--------->>>>

It is the local element of the controversial national Recreational Fee Demonstration Program system that imposes fees on the public to use public lands.

The Legislative Counsel of California has determined that the National Forest Service may not cite cars for parking on state highways within national forests unless there is evidence that the occupants have used the forest for recreational purposes (for example, the occupants have been observed entering the forest). The National Forest Service invites those who feel they have been cited unjustly to write to an address on the citation to appeal. This determination was made after a large number of incidents occurred where property owners were cited for parking on their own property, in communities completely contained in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Passes may be purchased for annual or day use online or from visitor centers and local merchants. Currently, the fee for a day pass is $5, and the fee for a annual pass $30. A second vehicle pass is also available for $5 with the purchase of an annual pass. Violators usually receive a "Notice of Noncompliance" and may clear the notice by purchasing a pass after the violation, paying online, or sending in a check or money order to the address in the envelope provided. Punishment of noncompliant individuals has been rare. In theory, use of the forests for non-recreational, First Amendment purposes does not require an Adventure Pass. In addition, using the restroom, stretching, or taking a picture is not a violation.

After passage of the Recreational Enhancement Act in 2004, Adventure Passes are now only required at designated "High Impact Recreational Areas". However, in fact most areas that previously required a parking pass still require one. To avoid a fine, a wise hiker will telephone a Forest Service office or check the maps of " High Impact Recreational Areas " online of the individual forests to determine in advance his or her permit needs, since adequate signage pertaining to the need for an Adventure Pass is not yet common. Although supposedly many areas do not require the pass, most of these locations are less convenient to populated areas and can be accessed only from areas that do require a pass.

This thread is a great read. Fun.

I have to side with Problemchild on this one.

When I am in the National Forest, I too park on the side of the road and go about my business. Fee areas are clearly marked and are what they are.
For example, if I want to camp in certain locations, then I have to pay a fee mainly because of bathrooms, paved roads, electricity and piped water for drinking.

As far as the benefits of an Adventure Pass, meh, I just park and walk. If there are no improved roads, meh, all the better for me as I just hoof it.
As for washed out roads, meh, I still hoof it.

The fine is only to pay the daily fee so even if a fine is given I pay the $5 and go on with my life. Now I just show my access pass and get it for free so no worries for me.

Has anyone not payed the fine? Do you know what happens? From what I have been told NOTHING happens. My friend has received multiple citations over the years and no adverse effects. I will never buy one of those again. And why is it only the so-cal forests that have it. Until they start opening roads instead of closing them they will get no extra cash from me.
