    Emergency food source

The Mormon churches food storage centers. (Mormons call them "the cannery's") You don't have to be Mormon to shop there or to use their setup. They sell grain and dried fruit and milk and just about anything you need for a long term food cache at their cost! And they have some serious buying power! You can go in and use their equipment or just buy bulk.

Here is a list of locations and here is a price list.

I AM NOT MORMON! You can utilize this resource without fear of missionaries showing up at your door. You can use a fake name and pay cash! They do not care! I think that they actually give a **** about the greater good.

This is the best price you will find for bulk food storage..... period.

    Go stock up.

I just drove past the one here in San Diego on thursday, and thought I have to make some time and get in there. I feel for some reason that I could pass on another 1000rnds of 5.56 or 9mm or x39 or whatever and spend half of that money and get a pretty good addition to the food storage right now.

If you want to have your wheat or oats or mik or whatever in #10 cans (about a gallon) sealed, you make an appt and go in and seal your goods in the cans yourself.

They provide (for the #10 can price) the can, the lid, a label, an oxygen remover, and all the equipment and know how to do it right. For every four(?) six(?) cans they give you a couple of plastic lids to keep the food clean after you open the can and a box to make stacking them easy. It takes a little time, but you providing the labor makes the price possible. Plus it is fun!

You can also package it in ""dry pack pouches" same deal for labels oxygen removers boxes etc and it is a bit cheaper.

I got mine in bulk and then put it in 5 gallon food grade buckets. I put a chunk of dry ice at the bottom of the buckets (a couple of oz is plenty), filled the buckets with grain/oats/beans/rice, then put the lid partially on. The dry ice evaporates and the Co2 replaces the oxygen. Snap the lid on fully and 30 years later... no bugs. Be sure to wipe the condensation ice off the dry ice with a towel just before you drop it in to keep the moisture out.

They don't sell the 5 gal buckets, too bad.

What location do you work near? If it is ok to ask. Free 55 g hdpe? Do you have the hd steel drums? It would definitely be worth a drive!

I am located in Concord right off Monument BLVD. All the drums are UN rated and I have about 100 in stock and get these on a regular basis. The steel comes 2 ways. Open top awesome for dry storage and closed top for gas, diesel ect..

Careful some "food grade" buckets are made with a TOXIC mold release to save money on production. Better make sure its says FDA approved on the bucket and call the manuf to see what he used. Also HDPE is not an oxygen barrier only mylar is. If its made in China Id pass.
