I live practically next door to one. Rode across the country on one of their bicycles last year. I've probably bought as much as I can ever buy. Pretty much got about all I need now.
If you don't have them, Chaco sandals rule. Sometimes they'll rebuild them for free when you wear the straps or soles out. You'll have to add a $50+ bill to your gift certificate. The icecream maker sounds like fun to me, though.

        REI is activley supporting

Closing forest and desert service roads to off road vehicle use. They contribute vast sums of money to vocal groups that want to prevent motorized use of our public lands.

        I spend elsewhere.

I don't like or buy from REI for this reason either. They do sell some cool stuff. Sometimes I can't help from going into the nearest store, just to look. If I see something I like, I try to source it somewhere else.

well it is nice getting away from the general ruckus and enjoy a nice night of camping minus the dirt road turned freeway at 7 at night.

if you camp at flagged spots then its commonplace.

The blastmatch is awesome to play with, easily 2x+ the sparks of the other two. You should be able to get out with both for around 50$. Or grab a benchmade mini griptillian.

Public land is owned by and intended for... ahhh... the public. Not just hunters and treehuggers.

It can and should be managed in ways that provide access for all tax-paying Americans, not just a selfish few who think their needs outweigh everybody else.

Wait until they have a big sale and use the $50 towards a high-quality tent.

Yeah, they'll probably be having a 20% off sale in the fall.

A friend of mine has a couple pairs of those. He likes them but recommends the model with the strap. He uses them for rafting and kayaking.

Someone told me that the Ice Cream maker is pretty crappy. I'm better off just buying ice cream and dry ice for a camping trip. Or, make my own ice cream maker out of a coffee can filled with ice/rock salt and a small can filled with cream/sugar/eggs/vanilla - saw this on Food Jammers on the Cooking Channel.

Do you really need ice cream when you're camping? You might as well bring a microwave that hooks up to your car and some TV dinners.
