um...no....depends on the campground (State Park, Wilderness area, etc). Some have fire rings and some don't. I just went to a state park that had a grill attached to the fire ring. I didn't even need to use the grill I brought.

Yea California, I try to stay away from campgrounds where the spots are 30 yards apart. There are a lot of places with fire pits made of rocks, and more peace and quiet.

Listing items you might want to take camping/backpacking isn't a bad idea if you don't do much of either, better still if you have a partner to help remember to double check. My family and I have been doing both for a long time and the key is to clean and stow your gear when you return, and replace the consumables used (stove fuel, matches, mantles, batteries, etc...). Generally we can gear up and be in the wind in a flash, and with the Wallmarts and Winncos open 24-7, you don't need as much planning as you did in the "old" days. We have a ton of equipment that we can assemble per the type of trip, car camp or backpack. Backpacking falls into additional catagories for us, on or off trail. We always carry about the same weight (40-55lbs.), the difference will be the extent of luxuries (meat vs freeze dried). Six, Pacific crest passes, Donner, Echo, Carson, Ebbets, Sonora, and Tioga, are within 3 hours or less, including Yosemite Valley. We're all over the place as often as we can, with whoever we can hook up with. Check it out.
          You need a crew
