    Camping list

Since I don't see anything here like this I thought we could have some CGN members post up a list of things the beginning camper should have. I just got back from a night of camping and realized I forgot a lot of stuff you wouldn't think of bringing or keeping in a camping kit. Anyone have a list of their own? Either a backpacking type of setup or car tenting type.

The list is different for each person and theirfore difficult to standardize. Many different variables come into packing for a trip such as time of year, location, length of trip, car camping, trailer/rv camping, etc.

If your learning how to read maps i also suggest a compass, although i never carry one. If you can read the map you can orient it correctly based on geography, and if you get lost in CA, just pick a direction and start walking......you'll hit road eventually(use your head when picking the direction, be aware of which way the highway or road is)

Here's a good reference, just take everything with a grain of salt from Backpacker magazine( some of the stuff they say is great really isn't)

This is kind of what I was looking for. Something that would be a good baseline for those who might want to start camping this summer or whenever. I know every list is different. Mine usually includes ATVs and ideally paddle tires but that's few and far between these days.

I'm assuming the 70oz bladder is for hiking. I've always gone off 1 gallon of water a day per person just to be safe. If anyone heads to the Rubicon they have "poop bags" (no joke) so you can dispose of your poop along the trail. It's actually pretty cool when you think about it. Saves the trail and keepts the antis at bay.

You should have seen the swarm we had this weekend, they were everywhere. Good thing we were too drunk to care.

Mostly my camping gear is simple...
                          Tent
                          Food
                          water
                          Sleeping bag
simple burner and small propane tank
                          one pan
few paper plates and a fork or two

                          and my backpack basics
first aid, knife, flashlight, matches, rope, etc.

Don't forget a lighter. One of the most overlooked items needed for camping/backpacking.
Next to me in the blackness lay my oiled blue steel beauty. The greatest Christmas gift I had ever received, or would ever receive. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep, pringing ducks on the wing and getting off spectacular hip shots.
