Camping with bass fishing near Socal?

I want to go camping near a lake/river/pond where I can do some bank fishing and maybe hook some donkeys (or dinks even). Anything like that exist near Socal? Maybe up to a 5-6 hour drive? I was looking at Glass Lake but it's a 8+ hour drive. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I do like alpine lakes and camping at high elevations but trout fishing lake bottoms is so damn boring.

I like Kern River/Lake Isabella and its camping surrounding. I believe there's even a shooting range there. However, I never caught a bass, just bunch of trouts. Maybe the locals know some spots for good catfish if you ask them with little purchase of baits at the tackle shops.

lake isabella does have some nice bass, but you have to be willing to work and wait for bites that don't come often.

Hi again, as promised this will be part 2 of 3 of Lake Isabella. In part 1 I talked about some of the history of the lake, safety tips, basic rules and places to eat and stay in and around the lake. Here in part 2 I’ll discuss fishing for my favorite species of fish, […]

Castaic seems like a place I would need a boat. Not sure how much available bank fishing there is (and if it's even good?). Also, the campground is a couple miles from the water which is too far for the kids to walk. I'll research the other two. Cachuma looks promising, thanks!

Isabella was on my list but it's always packed as far as camping. If I had a boat I would definitely try it out though.

Where in Bishop? Been all over Coyote flat and Mammoth all around the June lake loop and the millions of creeks in that area.. Nothing but trout around there.

We've been camping up Kern river all the way up into Sequoia NF, all over Inyo NF, and Sierra NF. All great for camping and trout fishing but I'm looking for LMB.

Lake Skinner. Good campground facilities, decent bass and striper fishing, and close to the Temecula wineries... win win.

Castaic has a lagoon mere feet from the campsites. I've been told "there's fish in there", although the guys in boats up at the top of the dam seem to do much better.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

My cousin takes his kids to Cachuma with the school and scouts.
There is a lagoon at Castaic with fish and walking distance to campsites, ou can rent an aluminium boat with outboard for the lake, find a cove and shore fish with the kids.
