Whats your latest knife purchase?

Elmax is a highly rated blade steel but since I carry (let alone use) few, if any, of my expensive knives w/premium steel, it doesn't really matter to me, except to the extent that the steel affects the cost/value of the knife.

On the other hand, I just started collecting more expensive Kershaws made in America that use M390 and other steels better than the 8Cr13Mov steel typically used in Chinese made knives. Besides, I already have more than enough Chinese made Kershaws and it was time to change the focus and focusing on USA made Kershaws w/better steel seemed the best course.

If you are really into the values increasing and rarity playing a factor... get into BUSSEkin and Traditionals (Great Eastern Cutlery). Those are for collectors and users. Regular production stuff is hit or miss.

Received a used ZT0400 today along w/a NIB ZT0551.

The only difference between the 2 is that the 0551 uses Elmax instead of S35VN steel and the impressions on the scale are horizontal rather than vertical.

0400 is cool. I always liked ELMAX.

I collect and use Buck knives . I just bought a unused in box 110 from 1981 .this would be called a 2 dot . Older blade grind and and steel.

I feel like I remember hearing they're using Carothers heat treat on that 3V. About to jump on a Carothers fighter here soon.

Just got a little acrylic case w/ drawers. Fits the folders well. Gonna put it under the valet on my nightstand. Keep the dust off, hahaha!

I love my ZT850!

Does yours have a light detent? Mine does and it will open w/a hand flick (which makes it illegal in NYC btw). Faster than an auto. No need to use the thumbstud.

Give it a try if you haven't already.

My detent feels a little light but it doesn't allow the blade to open even if I shake the hell out of it. Fires out smooth and fast.

well depending on if I win or not, I'm going to be getting a cfk Custom Knife. They claim to be custom made in the US but I'm pretty sure they are using either Turkish or Pakistani slave labor to make these things. I've wanted to buy one just to see how they look and just what the form factor is. For under fifty bucks I figure I can't go wrong as long as the blade is actually D2 steel and at least that part of it is real.

I have had a few. IMHO 100% PAKI made knives. Used 2 or 3 quite a bit. I still have a chopper and a bowie I use. They are not bad as a tool. As a company CFk has a well-deserved bad rep IMHO. I use them till they are getting dull and then Worksharp them. They do hold a decent edge and show some patina if you try to force it or leave them in the leather, etc... I had some really nice looking ones and sold all but the users probably a little less than I paid and gave some away.

If you get one let us know how you like it. They do cut. This was one of my favorite looking ones I sold.

Nice knife and product line. Great deal at $40 off for New Year's Sale. 1st I heard of them. I've got a Kershaw Grinder w/the same blade reverse tanto blade shape but nothing near as nice overall.

Would buy a Sea Dog too, if I didn't have so many knives already. Thanks for the look see.
