I have a Benchmade 710 from the first production run and it has been a faithful partner nearly every day for the past 14+ years. It has been all over the world and used in ways it probably shouldn't have been. I have tried other knives from other companies and they just don't measure up to the quality and durability of Benchmade folders.

The Axis Lock in my opinion is the fastest and strongest lock to open and close without an assist. It is extremely smooth to operate and you will break your blade before you harm the lock. As quick and easy as it is to use, it doesn't move unless you move it.

I know that the 710 is out of your price point but there are quite a few Benchmade knives in it.

+1 to this. I have had my 710 for quite a number of years and it has stood up to some hard use. The axis lock is rock steady and lasts a long time, mine still snaps close at te end like it's under tension from the great camming action. Add to that BM unsurpassed customer service and you cant go wrong.

OP, I know you said you aren't a fan of ZT knives but you should really look at the ZT 200. IMO it is easier to handle than the 300 and looks to have been designed for use as a thrusting implement.

I use a SOG vulcan for my EDC. I love this knife, similar to the axis system,but an arc instead so it might be better in your hand than the axis lock.

Thanks to all you Triage advocates, you've sold me. I recently picked up a kershaw blur, but I wasn't an immediate fan of the S-curved blade. I was also worried about how fast the blade deployed with the speed safe -- I know, almost all my blades are assisted and faster is better, but the blur is scary fast and all I could think about was my 5 year old deploying the blade before I could stop him.
Neither of these things are strikes against the Kershaw, it's a phenomenal buy, but it didn't quite fit my POU.

Read this thread out of curiosity, and immediately fell for the triage.: sheep foot blade, rescue hook, and excellent grip. Also, the axis lock seems like a great feature, like the LAWKS on my 10 year old CRKT M16. This will be my first manual blade since the M16, and I can't wait to see the UPS truck.
