Primary Purpose: Self protection - cutting vs stubbing/puncture dominated technique, but capable of sustaining thrust-like impacts against solid objects.

Secondary Purpose: Emergency utility - cutting fabric - clothing, car seat belt, rope, breaking glass with a butt.

Preferably "build like a tank" characteristic vs "will stay sharp forever" - I am fine with periodic sharpness maintenance.

Classic look and feel, not a fan of Zero Tolerance like geometircs.

You can get a kabar mule for about $40 and it's heavy duty, but weighs almost half a pound.

Folding knives aren't well suited for hard thrusting into solid objects. You'll usually break the tip off of the blade, or risk possibility of the blade folding and cutting you up.

Well, I train mainly focusing on stopping-cuts, but accidental "head-on" thrusts happen and if blade encounters a solid object i want blade/handle to hold. Mule looked cool, but it is made in Taiwan.

Spyderco Manix looks cool, had endura for a while, so just for the esthetics I wanna try something new and military is a bit "endurish"

I love my Kershaw Blur S30V with a smooth edge because it's fast, well made, feels good in the hand, and holds an edge. There do have a cheaper version but I wanted a wee bit better steel. I found a video review on youtube to demo the speed.

I was like, boys its tough to get a folder in CA. There aint that many choice. And for$100? More like $1000 maybe... And then i realized you are talking about knives. I would go with made in USA Buck knives.

I recently purchased a Benchmade Griptilian 553 and really like the locking mechanism. Its strong and has a very positive feel when engaging the lock. The knife is also really fast to deploy with a simple flick of the wrist. If your not into tanto blades, benchamde offers several blade configurations and if you really want something special, order one direct from benchmade and you can have it laser engraved and customized to your liking.

I have been carrying her for 3 weeks and absolutely love it.

I would say the norsman, it is only $25 to pre order it. lol Very quality knife though. I dont know if I could carry a $400 knife as an EDC though. So if I can;'t carry it I don't think I would buy it.

I love my kershaw ken onion 'shallot'.

Look carefully at the the kershaw line. You see low mid and high end knives under the kershaw brand.

The low,mid? are made overseas. The high end are USA made and are usually 'assisted opening'.

Love my USA made shallot with assist opening.

I abuse mine for work so I need to sharpen once in a while, but great steel in it that holds a nice edge.

It's a larger folder with a good size for self defense, but not very heavy at the same time. Clips inside my back pocket right next to my wallet.
