I can see how that would be a problem.

Can you clamp it in a vise to hold it? I know they sell a stand, but don't feel like dropping the extra 10 bucks (I know I'm cheap lol)

Get the lanksy diamond kit. You won't regret it. It is by far the easiest sharpening system I've used that will get you a quality, razor edge.

grab a 4" long or so 3/8" bolt and a couple nuts, thread the nuts on about an inch and jam em together so they wont move. then clamp it in the vise and slip the lansky on

I've had the DMT system, the Sharpmaker, and the Edge Pro Apex. About 4 months ago I bought the Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition and I will never go back to using anything else after working with this machine. It really is fantastic. It gets my knives just as sharp as my stones did but in WAY less time. I used to dread sharpening my knives because of the time it took but now I actually look forward to doing it. I even sharpen all my co-workers' knives now for free and they are always impressed with the hair-popping, mirror edge I put on their blades. I'm not knocking any other system but for the money you pay and the results that you get and the TIME it saves, I wouldn't trade this little machine for anything else.

I have one . I love it, I tried all the stones and never could the edge right. If you use coarse then the fine it will put a razor edge on.

Wow really? Usually everyone says, once they used the Edge Pro will use nothing else! That is the one I was looking at but couldn't justify the price

The Edge Pro was great and I got excellent results with it. However, it always felt a little cumbersome to set up, it always made a mess on my table, and to get an edge from dull to razor sharp took me about 45 minutes. The Ken Onion is super easy, makes no mess at all and it never takes me more than 10-15 minutes per knife.

Do you recommend the Ken Onion for large knives....like the Becker BK9? TIA.

Yes. I've sharpened both big and small knives. Even all my kitchen knives of various sizes and a few fillet knives as well.
