CA-importable 1957 python on gunbroker.

Made in 1957, which I believe means it's allowed to be imported into CA under the 50+ year rule (or am I mistaken?):

It's a simple enough rule, but falls under the "too good to be true" heading, so I'm always nervous I somehow misunderstood it.

It needs to be 50 years old, so that means made on/before August 9, 1958. Since getting an exact born-on date may be impossible, its easier to roll back to 1957.

I have enough pistols in my FFL's safe, that if I do FIFO, then I'd not be getting this well into 2009, so 1958 should be fine...

Summary of California C&R (Class 03) FFL related law, updated July 30th, 2008.

Using your C&R Class 03 FFL you can buy from anyone and receive from out of state by common carrier, in conformity with federal law, any firearm that cannot be readily concealed on the person, i.e. long rifle, that is a federally defined C&R that is at least 50 years old (manufactured on or before 1957) excluding of course machine guns.

It MUST be more than 50 years old. Items dated 1958 or later are NOT C&R in California.

True antiques (rifles & pistols manufactured before January 1st, 1899) are exempt because they are not considered firearms.

NO PISTOL or concealable firearm, regardless of C&R status can be ordered from out of state and shipped in, or sold within the state without going through a Class 01 Dealer FFL.

However... there is now that obstacle as of 1 July in dealing with out of state sales. I've missed out on a number of S&W revolver C&R's because the 01 FFL was not willing to ship to CA. So before you bid... make sure that the seller, if an FFL dealer, is willing to play by obtaining the DOJ authorization number needed to ship.
