The problem with Costco is that you can easily go broke saving money.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

^^ This. We live two miles from a Costco. Blessing and a curse, for sure.

We've been members for a very long time, and like CS, stepped up to the Executive Membership a while back because the annual rebate more than covered the cost.

More recently, we purchased a sectional couch from them. 18 months later and one of the seating areas was totally flat and another had a spring popping out. We don't abuse our furniture nor did we over-use it to the point of being worn out. I brought it back and had a discussion with their Member Services manager. They agreed to take it back and although it was past time they could give me a cash refund they did agree to give me the purchase price on a Costco gift card.

Costco used to offer this same policy without any limit at all. You could return something you bought years ago, and they'd give you the lowest price they sold it for or what you paid on your receipt if you still had it. They had to put restrictions in place because scumbags took advantage like it seems you're advocating here.
I have no intentions of doing this. If for some reason before 90 days you decide you don't want it, return it. Simple.

I'm a single guy with a dog and heavy pocketbook for gun stuff. I just can't justify a membership despite all of the goodies there. That and I don't want to deal with the hoards of crazy people buying stuff.

I used to work there back in college. It's not advertised but if you don't get a refund check that is as much as the cost of the membership, take the refund check to the membership counter and they will give you the difference. I believe this only applies to the executive if I remember correctly. Also, their new citi visa has very good rebates. My wife and I use it for almost all purchases and just pay off the balance in full every month. We are currently up to about $400 rebate for the year.

yes, tv and computer "rentals" were scummy. part of me was glad when they changed that policy but part of me was upset. i now buy the protection plan that they offer on their TVs and electronics. the good side to costco's "new" return policy is that i no longer have to drag a 60+ inch tv in to get replaced when something goes wrong, i call a number at costco and they send people out to either replace it or pick it up for service.

ive bought over 20 visio 70 inch tvs for my offices, of those, 3 or so have gone bad from remaining turned on almost 9 hours a day or even longer if the users forget to turn them off. the service plan people come out, diagnose the issue and either pick it up for service at their shop or work on it there. i have had 3 screens go out so they just send me a check for the amount that i paid for the tv. i had one samsung 75 inch go out with almost 3 weeks left on the warranty, they paid me out for the entire cost of the tv 3+ years ago.

i do the same for myself and my business needs. i would be annoyed at amex for offering a max of just under $900 as the yearly rewards ceiling but now that i have the new card, there is no ceiling.

I picked up some of the NY strips today. Looks good. Right next to them were some USDA Prime bone-in cowboy tomahawk Ribeyes... Wow! I wanted to get a couple but don't have it in the budget right now. Not too bad a price either... I think it was around $16/lb. This was in Santa Clara by the San Jose airport.

Anyone ever tried the USDA Prime ribeye cap steaks? Those look so amazing but pricey... Maybe for my birthday this year I can get a couple.
