I too was thinking about taking the door off in order to get it into my apartment on the 2nd floor, so while in Costco I called Granite Safe Company (the manufacturer of the winchester safe) and talked to someone there. He said that you CAN take the safe off, but you run the risk of chipping the paint and damaging the finish. He also mentioned that the door hinges sit on ball-bearings and if those bearings do not align properly the door will not shut correctly. He said not to do it, but if I needed to remove the door to pile up a stack of phonebooks next to the safe and gently life the 200 lb. door onto the phonebooks so that you don't drop the door to the ground.

By the way, when punching in the combination to the safe, after I punch in the combo I hear TWO BEEPS before it unlocks. Is this normal???

haha maybe I got lucky mine opens and closes the same after I put the door back on. I just took it off to make swinging the safe around easier when we were bolting it down.

and I believe mine beeps twice too!

So Are your guys fairly satisfied with the safe? I just got the green light from management to pick one up. Was there today and there are a couple left. Whatta you all think?

Read the thread, it has its ups and downs but in reality, if you're putting scoped rifles or pistol gripped rifles, its about a 12-16 capacity tops without them clanging around. I feel its the best bang for the buck I could get .

Thanks bombadillo, For what its worth I did read the thread. I just thought that now that time had past were people feeling differently, better, worse or the same about the purchase. I should have made myself clearer. Thank for the response

This is a step up for me. It holds all my guns, it has some fireproofing and I think it would prevent access to the quick smash and grab burglar. If someone wanted to get in there they could, but if someone wanted to steal my car they could as well.

For me it's a good step up from my 8 gun cabinet/locker.

I must say I love not carrying the extra key that I used to have for my old smaller safe. The electronic entry is great!

it's worth noting that your numeric combination code must be 6 numbers long. I wanted it to be 5 but I had to improvise to make it 6.

Has any one seen any of these in the Antelope valley area lately? Or even in the Inland empire area or Burbank/Van Nuys area. Thanks.
