The manual says door comes off, but they don't advise it. They say it is hard to put back with out messing up the paint and potentially the bearings in the hinges. I'm not taking mine off.

            weight question.

What do you think this bad boy weighs? In lbs.? What do you think the door weighs by itself?

Snagged one up to. Only the demo is left at van nuys costco. It only took two if us and a dolly to move. No stairs though so it was an easy move

                500lbs I believe...

In the instructions it does say: WARNING do not remove the door.

Nope, on the box it came in and from granite security products it says 388lb. There is no way this thing is 500lbs.

Here is a copy of the 2 labels on the carton, one showing the gross (shipping) & net (contents) weights.

Also attached is copy of the color feature list stuck to the front of the safe.

Cardboard box, 1 piece of foam & bubble wrap could not be over 10 pounds total.

For the price, decent safe. Not airtight, and though safe has limited lifetime warranty, electronic lock does not & has offer for 10 yr for $50

Good for multi-story install as the 400+lb safe is very doable via stairs with help. I unloaded from pickup, & installed in single story house myself.

One thing I didn't realize on the air tight thing is that when it heats up around the safe, look at the little strip around the door, it opens up and seals air tight with the door. If you're looking for air tight, take some foam rubber weather stripping for doors 3/8" thick and put it all the way around, it should work really well. As for a real fire, it will get air tight awfully quick. Thanks for posting up pics of the safe weight, I knew it couldn't be 500+lbs

I was able to fit 16 AK/AR and 10 hand guns (one scoped and 4 with red dot) so far and have plenty of room for another 4 or 5 AK's (see all the empty carpet in the middle?) . I cheated and used rifle rods to make more space without having my rifles lean up on each other, though.

I used the upper shelf for handguns and gutted the lower area for my rifles.

The light on the upper right is the triangular led light i saw at costco while I was roaming around. It's velcro mounted and is motion activated with automatic turn-off. Lights it up pretty well
