I just picked up my 870HD
Only thing wierd to me is how the mag extension tube is longer than the barrel. In many pics, they look flush. Are they supposed to be?

Bought the Mossberg 590 "Security" today for $229.

I was looking all over Mossberg's web page, trying to see what a "Security" model was, and found nothing. From my own observation, it seems like it's a model 50645, but without the bayonet lug, heat shield, and rubber butt pad.

Either way, it's still a 590, which I think is a bargain for the price.

I was there at 5:15AM and ended up second in line. The guy first in line was hoping to get a Saginaw M1 carbine. There was only one in stock and it was a Saginaw. What are the odds?

        I bought the 9 shot 50645 Mossberg for $339.

.45 ACP ammo was $20 for a 50 pack. I went to Walmart later today and they had WWB .45 ACP 100 packs for $35.

is this the one you bought?

            if so, i believe it's a 500 (not 590) 'persuader' - model number 50577

[the '590 security' was going for $339 i believe - and i'm not sure which exact model it was...]

I am considering that 870 at 299.. but frankly the 'deal' is not that great. that is roughly just 9% off.. I am betting post xmas will be better

You got the 500, not the 590.

The Mossberg 590 is superior to the Remington 870 in several ways. The main one being that you don't have to remove your hand from the grip to operate the safety and bolt release. Also, the Mossberg has dual extractors and will fire any ammo - not so with the Remington 870. Some of the off the shelf bulk Winchester ammo will break the single extractor on the 870 and you are out of the fight. Seen it happen several times in training classes. Don't take my word for it though, ask Louis Awerbuck.

The Mossberg ghost ring sights are also superior to the Remington types.

The US Marines chose the 590A1 for these reasons.
