I had 35P. Excellent chronograph. It certainly was a PITA to transport and set up but I always felt like I was getting accurate & precise results. For awhile there they quit making them and the price on used ones went through the roof. I sold it.

I now use a ProChono Digital from Competition Electronics. Easy to set up and seems to give me good numbers. They have come out with a bluetooth link for it so you can use your smart phone as the display. not sure what calcs it will do or export of data but seems handy.
Anyone press will hear the fat lady sing.

That's why I shoot on public land. Yeah I have to drive two hours to shoot, but when I have no range fees to pay, no range master to deal with, Call cease fire whenever the hell I want. No dip dunk Yahoo next to me with poor muzzle discipline, Can reload right there at the "range" Set up a Chrono, and yeah if you want have a beer, and a burger too.

Yeah public land is a two hour drive but well worth it to weed out the men from the boys

My battery of chronographs include an old 1980's Oehler Model 33, a current Model 35P, and a Version 1 Magnetospeed with the V.2 bayo. I have worked up loads with all three, but the Magnetospeed is by far the most convenient. Hanging the bayo on my barrels is not a problem, but we are talking about varmint barrels that measure from 0.680" to 0.880" diameter at the muzzle, and one heavy sporter barrel that's 0.712". Groups developed with the Magnetospeed remain the same size with the bayo removed. There is no shift in POI either way. The main problem is getting the bayo to stay in place with light weight barrels, so for these I use the Oehler 35P.

The Labradar unit sounds interesting, provided the beam is narrow enough to allow it to be used on a crowded public range. Even the Oehler Skyscreens can be interfered with by muzzle blast waves from neighboring shooters that produce false readings.

One of my fantasies a few years ago was to envision a shooting lab in a scope, where a radar or laser would track the bullet from muzzle to target, registering continuous velocities and deceleration, producing a comprehensive ballistic curve in real time. The rifle mounted device would also provide altitude, temperature and air density data, as well as GPS coordinates. Airborne dust particle flow would also chart wind speed and direction over the entire range of distances covered by the trajectory and compute bullet drift. Another feature would be a scanner that would read a coded strip on factory ammo and enter the hold over and wind drift corrections for that load. There are some scopes just on the verge of getting some of that functionality, but at a price.

So I'll be interested in the Labradar unit if the price is somewhere affordable.

Well at least we are not shooting through paper disks anymore

for those that don't know this was a Chronograph back in the day.

how this worked is with a very relatively quickly rotating set of paper disks, You shoot through both disks. Muzzle velocity was measured by knowing the RPM and calculating the difference in degrees of the bullet strikes fare more accurate then conventional electronic methods but it takes some time to fire a ten shot string. No software needed either, and chronograph memory was infinite well at least till you ran out of paper disks

Something similar, in the early 80's we shot through paper with wires in them that completed the circuit to the chronograph. When the bullet broke the wires in the paper it tripped start and stop switches.

I think the going price is somewhere around 525-550? They're suppose to be in full production already.

I just picked up a magnetospeed from another CG'er. The junk little cam clasp was broken out of the box. So magnetospeed is fine as long as you spend the extra money to get the upgraded strap dealiebopper.

                        Still waiting for labradar.

Their primary engineer got very sick. Nearly died from what I read but they're back up and running now. I still give it two weeks.

LabRadar will be difficult to use from my understanding at say a public range or if you have multiple shooters around you from the nature of how it works. I love the idea though...absolutely love it!
