    I have a question?

Why do people brag about their close groupings that are no where near the center of the target? They could be off the paper and still be proud of missing the target, whats the point?

Because close groupings are desirable, and even though off the target they can be adjusted and repeated, I agree with you though, adjust, repeat, then brag.

Close, consistent groupings mean the shooter has found ammunition that works well with the firearm chamber, barrel, trigger, muzzle, shooter, etc.. Once close, consistent groupings are obtained, then it is time to zero in with the sights.

In short, close, consistent groupings are a measure of the firearm. Close, consistent groupings that hit at the intended point of aim are a measure of the firearm and sights working together with the shooter.

Personally, I would not post photos of tight, consistent groupings that were not hitting the point of aim which is usually the target center.

Hunters may sight in 2" high at 100 yards. This is common for hunters that must sight in at 100 yards but might be taking game at say 200 yards. A tight group 2" directly above the bullseye would be the desired group in this case.

During load development you keep the reticle on the 'X' and group to the side.

Shooting out the 'X' makes it more difficult to duplicate your point of aim.

There is "accuracy" which is only centering your POI around your POA and then, there is "precision" which is measured by group size. A same group in the 6 ring shows that you, your rifle and ammo are consistent. Anyone can adjust sites to be "accurate" but, it takes a good shooter, good ammo, good rifle and good equipment to be "precise.

It shows your shooting grouping, ammo, and technique is working. The shooter just have to zero the sight and he or she should be in the money zone..

I was testing loads this morning for groups and velocity. I don't want to mess up my aiming point by putting a bullet hole next to it.

In the first group I held on the lower left corner of the orange square and it was to close to my point of aim. The second group I adjusted up two clicks and held for the bottom right corner of the next orange square. It was also to close to my point of aim so I adjusted it up a couple more clicks.

I hold on the 90 degree angle of the squares to give me an exact aiming point, I don't want to mess that up with a bullet hole.

I have a question. Why did you not ask your question in your post topic?
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?
