    Cuyama monthly long range schedule

Here's the monthly schedule for long range matches at the Cuyama range. Usually we have a practice day on the Saturday before the Sunday match for $10, to cover the costs of targets but check with me during the week to make sure that I can get there to help or that someone else will be there.

    Apr. 19 - 2 x 1,000
Jun. 7 - Calif. Precision Rifle Club Clinic
    Jun. 21 - 2 x 1,000
    Jul. 19 - Palma
    Aug. 16 - 2 x 1,000
    Sep. 20 - Palma
    Oct. 18 - 2 x 1,000
    Nov. 15 - Palma
    Dec. 20 - 2 x 1,000

A Palma match is 15 rounds at 800, 900 and 1,000 yards. Unlimited sighters at 800 yards, two sighter shots at 900 and 1,000 yards. 17 minute time limit for each distance.

A 2 x 1,000 match is 2 relays of 20 rounds at 1,000 yards. Unlimited sighters with a 22 minute time limit per relay.

The matches are open to open sight and scoped rifles and you can shoot with a sling or off of a bipod, front rest and rear bag. All matches are shot from the prone position.

Bring all the appropriate safety equipment. If you're shooting a scoped rifle make sure your scope has finger adjustable knobs. If you have a good 100 yard zero we can coach you on the dope to shoot to 1,000 yards. Make sure that your ammunition is capable of staying supersonic out to 1,000 yards.

PM me if you want more information.

Not a .30 cal service rifle?

Milo, we do have a member that has shot his AR-15 service rifle out to 1,000 yards at Cuyama, and when I still had one, I shot the long line there with a Garand a couple times. There's a 5.56 x 45 reason the national Match Course no longer includes a 1,000 yard stage. The little round can do it, but it is asking a whole lot of a cartridge designed for a third the distance. The Garand was / is much more capable at 1,000 yards, even with 47 year old M72 Match ammo.

I have a former Palma rifle that now wears a Sightron 8 - 32x 'scope instead of iron sights, has a Flex-Pod bipod, and even comes with ammo that you are welcome to shoot if you make the trip up to Cuyama for one our match weekends.

Mike that's a very thoughtful offer.

The next match will be April 19th but unfortunately I will be out of the country next week on a business trip so I won't be able to attend.

PM Crowbar (Mike) as he may be available for practice (Saturday) and the match on Sunday.

This Sunday we are shooting 1,000 rounds yards, 40 rounds required plus sighters.

3 miles south on Hwy 33 of the highway 166 intersection (about 15 miles west of Maricopa). Look for the "Palma" sign on the west side of the road under the Ventura County Limits sign.

                  Be there by 07:30

Saturday afternoon practice session available also.

                      No kidding, I fixed it.

I will need the 6.5x284 re-barreled soon but want a tight chamber again.

Will you be having a practice session on 5/9/2015? I'm interested in getting some trigger time at 1K yards for the upcoming NRA Nationals. Thanks

I'll get an email in the next week or so with the match announcement and I'll post it up here when I get the information.

                              Tri County Rifle Club...membership??

Help...We're from Bakersfield and have recently become interested in the art of long range shooting. We (two friends and myself) keep getting shut out of long range areas (Elk res. area then Elk Hills road area).
I came across this thread and am excited that I may be able to stretch out my new 6.5 grendel and my friend is excited to see what his 6.5 creedmore gas gun can do. Is there a Tri County Rifle Club? Can we join? Can we shoot at the "Cuyama 1000yd range" as shown in Wikimapia? Any info would be greatly appreciated
