Yeah. Frames already have ATF approval. Just waiting to find out how many will be available and at what price. Looks like it may be awesome.Comment

It will be at least 2 weeks before I have the frames in hand. I should have an unlimited number available.Comment

No problem. Im just stoked that we will still have and option for 2011 guns in CA. And trust me when I say it is a very legit option.Comment

truthfully I trust my builds over many, you only spend twice or more than that when you choose quality parts, for example esarco kits for a complete 1911 minus frame can be bought for around $200 and then a 80 frame from gunbroker for $90-$100 so you can have a cheap 1911 for around $300 give or take, I choose to build for many reasons, I can build one of quality of my own accord, that if I was to have a reputable gunsmith build would cost me much much more, not to mention I can't just buy a quality 2011 frame, you also say only 1% of shooters care or notice the difference but I don't agree, many shooters I know will and can by far tell the difference of a quality made item not to mention how many shooters have gotten into sport shooting and competitionMy biggest complaint is the overall cost to build. It's like a $2000 AR versus a $500 AR, only a high end shooter is going to notice or care about the difference. So, the high end stuff ends up being for like 1% of the user base and is less interesting for the vast majority. I know it's not fully about the money and more about the build, it's just that 1911/2011 builds aren't anywhere near that price point, for me (and I imagine plenty of others), where it's worth spending double to have that experience. It's one of the reasons AR builds are great, you'd almost never lose money versus buying complete. I think the biggest key to selling 1911/2011 80% frames has less to do with the frame itself and more to do with price/availability/variety of build kits. Just my 2c from what I think is an average Joe perspective.Comment

the places you've been to I'm going to assume is just the range, which is understandable because many come to just enjoy a peaceful time to shoot but not to mention many of these ranges only go up to 100 sometimes more yards only, the ones that want more out of there equipment are usually the ones like I mentioned before that shoot competitively (which its an ever growing sport) for many reasons, speed mainly and accuracy and what fits them best and many more reasons, a well tuned pistol or semi-auto rifle will give you a much much faster fallow up shot when seconds count because of the minimal sight movement, and that will also need accuracy to shoot distant targets at, many ranges wont allow you to pull from a holster for quick draw practice, aim and shoot and wont allow rapid firing, no double, tipple taps allowed have to wait so many seconds to shoot another round that you have plenty of time to realign your sight to the target, you should check out some vids of competitive shooting on YouTube, look up 3 gun, IPSC, steel chalange, IDPA etc etc etc, then you might see what I'm trying to explain and pay attention to how some of these pistols/rifles perform when shot with very little or almost no movement from the recoil just to get an idea
oh and esarco gets them in more often than most think, especially if you look late afternoon or early morning a few will be available for a very short time usually once a week or up to a month at times before selling out, I've bought many times the different kits they have not even a few months ago I got two but you just have to periodically refresh or check often, I would have to say i got lucky most of the times on a Thursday and then Friday was secondComment

I don't think he just meant to save money but I think his ideas of thinking of what he and his friends do with firearms are different, such as range time and resale/trade, etc. its sites like this that introduce you to the many different types of people with firearms and the owners and hobbyist out thereComment

If you don't consider the cost of tools and time you can have a pretty nice build for a fair amount of money, or a really crappy build for a tiny bit of money, but you will probably have a hard time matching a middle of the road build due to economies of scale and availability of parts.
I've managed to find some pretty good deals on ebay though. Just have to be patient. Also strategic use of coupons and sales at brownells and midway. Got killer deals on the grip, slide and barrel for my 2011 and put the whole thing together for about $1500. Not counting my time, or my tools (which I already had from prior builds).
Would have been far more efficient to work extra and just pay for a custom job with all the time I sank into it, but what fun is that?Comment

Any home build is more expensive than buying the product outright.
But the quality of the finished product depends on the person doing
the work. If you are satisfied with subpar work and something that looks like **** then that's what you will get. So its up to the individual on how the product will turn out irrespective of monetary value of the parts..Comment
