P226 Slides are stainless steel that has been blued (yes you can blue stainless steel just need different chemicals) but can not be removed easily with rust remover like steel bluing.
You basically have your choice of soda blasting or bead blasting it off so it can be polished since never a good idea to put strong acids on the metal otherwise it will get etched. -
Vinegar. Youtube it. I've done it with glocksComment

Glocks are a parkerized finish not blued and have a nitride harden surface that will resist acid to some extent, if you gonna be a you tube gunsmith at least know the difference between finishes.
The OP wants to have a polished look and soda blasting will remove the bluing plus give a smooth finish that is great for polishing. Most auto shop or machine shops should have soda blasting setups and it should be cheap.Last edited by Gunsmith Dan; 12-07-2014, 1:01 AM.Comment

Thing is how much do you want to spend? and how polished do you want it.
I could remove the bluing and bead blast where it would look like a S&W revolver.
Or polish it to what ever degree of polish you desire.
It's starts pretty cheep and gets really expensive really quick when you start talking polish work
PM if you likeComment

Gunsmith Dan- Glocks are not parkerized. The finish is called "Tenifer". Maybe a little more you tube for you.Comment

Kipage:
More than happy to get you setup just PM me and we can discuss it further.

To bad You Tube has rotted your brains that you do not bother to do research before attacking people.
Tennifer is a trade mark name for the Ferritic nitrocarburizing process that is used to harden the surface of steel. Ferritic nitrocarburizing is a surface hardening process, not a coating, that is greyish in color and can have a discolored appearance. That is the reason the surface is Parkerized black then coated with a special low friction clear to give it the shiny, smooth and uniform appearance.
Ohh FYI Glock STOPPED using Tenifer process since 2010 and instead is using a Gaseous ferritic nitrocarburizing which uses less dangerous chemicals than the salt bath version. Then the finish is parkerized black but the new Glocks do not have a clear coat applied which is the reason Gen4s look so flat black compared to older versions and the Parkerizing wears off faster.
I guess if you two had actually attended any advanced armorer classes at the Glock HQ in Smyrna, Georgia you might have gotten that knowledge.

Dan- If you knew the process was Tenifer or nitro carburizing then that's what you call it as a gunsmith. You printed the name in bold letters, which was a name that someone who doesn't know the difference between finishes might cling to and end up making a mistake on their gun.Last edited by hawaii five-0; 12-09-2014, 5:45 AM.Comment

Dan, I have a very successful career, I have no need or want to be a "gunsmith".
I build for the "fun" of it and for nothing else, "classes" would be a complete waste of my time.
...if laughing is "attacking you"... you might want to attend a skin thickening class or two...just saying...Comment
