Valley82 you failed to disclose that piece of information you come up to the shop I'm going to have to put guards on everything
Just kidding there buddy but I could not resist.

Now FYI an ME that flys a desk and never gets his hands dirty is just about useless. But an ME that has a mechanical hobby is a whole different breed.
That's where the practical skill comes in.

Do you have one of those pocket protectors with the snap-close lid so your pencils don't fall out when you bend over?
Randall you're dating your self. I don't think the make pocket protectors any more let alone an ME that uses a pencil. They all have smart phones and iPads for note taking now days. And to think my math class in grade school was the last to use a slide rule.

Well, yeah, we'd probably end up cutting a finger off, or getting the neck tie caught in the lathe. BUT, we aren't all like that.

They would all just call an HVAC guy.
Besides, if the chiller or A/C goes down, it was probably a bad design by the ME that designed it...
If it failed, it was the EE's fault.

Lots of ME's get out and get their hands dirty.

Double sided tape around the pencil barrel and stick it up over the ear.

-In all seriousness, I know why this is....but remember, if we don't have a "PE" after our name, we are still OK.

          No pocket protectors here...LOL
I tried the desk gig when I got out of college...it lasted about two weeks before I was bored to tears...
Designing the systems is the boring part, building it and piping the system is what I enjoy the most by far.
I do know plenty of MEs that are suit and tie guys, I think I own a tie, but I would have to dig to find it...

I designed cars for Honda. No pocket protectors, and rarely got my hands dirty in the studio, but I get plenty dirty with guns, motorcycles, rock climbing, etc.

Manufacturing engineers think that mechanical engineers are poindexter with a pocket protector sitting at a desk.
Mechanical engineers think that manufacturing engineers are knuckle-dragging apes with 36" pipe wrenches and grease guns.

Ok, back to my original question. So, Randall, or anyone else, can I use a press or mill to remove some plastic?
