once the port is drilled you are done

i would sell it cheap fully informing the buyer (it will make a decent 22lr conversion)

      Only mere mortals are done.
I could set the barrel back 1 turn so that the gas port indexes correctly and re-chamber to correct headspace.
Then, you can trim 1/16" off the end of the gas tube IF (only if) the gas tube is found to bind in the gas key (usually not an issue).
The shorter length will not matter with free float rails as most have more than 1/16" of clearance behind the gas block seat or they already cover the gas block seat.

There are different lengths of gauges depending on what standard you are working to.
An in-spec barrel could show to be out of spec if the wrong gauges are being used to do the testing...

Why wouldn't you just return it for refund if you're worried about the headspace, and just get another barrel? Didn't you had another thread where you said this is brand new and there's a 90 day money back guarantee?
You should clarify with Rainier what gauge they use to check headspace, you gunsmith might be using a different one, 308 vs 7.62 nato?

I read on calguns that if you shoot a 5.56 barrel enough, it turns into a 7.62x51 barrel.

Sounds like a headspace check with a different set of gauges might be in order.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Sent it back to rainer the said they checked "hs" not that it passed I have this in another tread . I sent them a video of it closing on the no go,foster gauge. They will not reply when I asked if they would take responsibility for my damaged rifle if I shot it. I need to mic the gauges to answer ar15barrel.com question. Dave lake at brentwood gunsmithing in Henderson NV said not to shoot it. He used to be the gun smith at my local shop in modesto. He used these gauges. Building guns. I have seen enough of Dave's builds to know that I should go with his recommendations. I really want to get the video up on here and many other websites. Its on YouTube. Check for rainer arms ar308 head space bad.
