AK build sequence

I totally get why you do it in that order at a build party and it makes perfect sense when you are only spot heat treating.I've cut several out of flat stock, but I am forever misplacing them. Plus at build parties we were frequently using other peoples tools and I sure as sh*t ain't taking a grinder to any part of it. Eventually I think we just developed the habit of doing the TG first to streamline the process.
My process is different because I am doing full heat treating.

I have 3 of those plates that I milled or ground to slide in under the rails, plus a couple that will fit yugo/rpk receivers.
I ordered up 6 foot of McMaster part number 8892k38. It's the same stuff Curtis sends you to press the trigger guard rivets. I made several of those plates and so they will fit just about any type of receiver and still have some left over to make a custom plate if needed, also this material is already hardend. It'll take dozens of builds before you start to see any deformation in the plate.I've cut several out of flat stock, but I am forever misplacing them. The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

heat treat
can you tell by looking at the metal if it has been heat treated. I am no machinist but i know about most things mechanical. i am concerned i have a receiver that was not heat treated ?. should the ejector tip and trigger & hammer pin holes show signs of metal bluing. THANKSComment

There will be a distinct color change in raw metal when it has been heated up.
Look at these spot welds:

It depends. What kind of receiver do you have? We can probably tell you based on who made it.can you tell by looking at the metal if it has been heat treated. If it's been blasted after heating it will remove the color of the oxide layer Randall told you about. An easy way to check hardness is to run a file across your ejector tip. If it's been heat treated the file will skate across the hard metal and probably make a horrible screeching sound while removing almost zero material.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

My worry is the hole on the left side for the hammer pin is not round. and on the right side the safety lever is really gouging the sheet metal. i do not have all the history on the AK build. suposidly it was unfired before i got it. It is possible that the hole on the left was not drilled properly and somebody played with the safety a lot with no lubrication . i know a pix would help but i think it has a coat of BBQ paint on the receiver. i guess i should strip the paint on the receiver and see what i have. If i cannot verify the heat treat can i spot heat treat the ejector tip, hammer and trigger pin holes and maybe the safety hole again.
thank you.Comment

Ok since Squirly pointed out that no one added a very crucial step here is my revised build order based on build party experience
And if you think that is far fetched. well there were to many witnesses that will say other wise. this is a very accurate accountUnload truck find safe place for coolers of beer and limes and ice and salt and tajin spice.
