Lol ok so I guess my sarcasm was a little too forward..

Did I actually think there would be a line? No lol just thought it was a funny way to say I don't have all the tools needed but was willing to get what I can buy if someone had a jig and a press it would be extremely helpful. I based my info off of the build party sticky that says we need a Dremel, drill, bending jig, and other related stuff. That thread doesn't make it seem like it would take too long but I guess I'm wrong.

I'm not actually trying to be cheap, I offered the beer and dinner in good faith that there might be someone who has all the tools left over from their builds and might be willing to teach someone else so that he can go build many many Aks. If that person would rather have cash I'm not against that but I'd like the motive to be on the helping side, rather than the business customer relationship.

I already own 2 Aks which were bought but now I trying to learn how to make the receiver. Im not looking for any handouts but maybe someone who knows how to build these things wants to help.

Maybe I should've titled this thread "seeking a paying it forward ak instructor" lol

Lol some of you caught on the the humor of a line forming to do this because let's face it.. Why would there be a line? Lol too bad it upset more people than it was intended.

Btw I'm comparing this to asking one of my buddies help me install a lift kit on my jeep rather then rebuild an engine. Which my friend happily did for a case of beer and dinner on me. I helped him when he's needed it and gave up my weekends to help on his projects. I don't think this is an entirely new idea for people to do. But it seems like this task is beyond one of those favors you ask a friend for.

No disrespect intended to anyone, I'm just looking for a hands on instruction from some fellow calgunners

It did come off like a Craigslist hooker ad I thought you were gonna offer roses as payment toward the end LOL!

Yes more like rebuilding an engine than adding a lift kit! It is seriously an all day process. +1 for Nicoroshi he is one of the best builders on this forum and he is in NorCal.

Thanks for swallowing your pride it is rare to see on the internet these days and most people that build AKs are very humble about their skill that can border on an art form.

Read up a bunch, hang out/ask questions in the gunsmithing section and be patient and I am sure your build will come together.

Coming in late on this one. Buddy everyone that posted is on the list of the top guys for advice on builds and weapon in general. this ain't the AK files so if you got a little miffed at what was said, be glad you didn't post over their. they are much more harsh then here.

Now as for cost. 40 cases of Old Milwaukee or 12 cases of good beer. puts you right in the ares we need to be in.

Now for tooling costs
12 ton press $130 off sale at harbor freight
flat bending die $160
Long rivet jig $150 Plinker style or $250 AK builder
Short rivet bolt cutters $95
Trigger guard rivet jig $70
barrel press tools $70
Head space gages $70
Drills, reamers, $70
Spot welder with AKbuilder tong and electrodes $200
Parkering tank, Chemicals, stand w/burner $300

So you can see it adds up quick.

Time wise I start my builds at 8AM and if we don't run into any issues I can have a builder done and smiling at about 3pm but there again i've had guys show up with virgin kits and we were here for 12 hours. it takes what it takes to build an AK

I made almost all of my tooling due to cost, that and I had a bunch of free time and scrap steel and didn't know any better

So to put things in perspective that case of beer better be three bottles of 18 year old Jameson or a case of Newcastle and a $200 gift card to Donavan's

Seriously though Nico is in your area see if you can get a build day with him he is by far the best home builder around and if he had a shop he's be on the top five list of the Pros. His Attitude alone puts him as number one. then he charges about half of what he should for build too.

I'll share that I was recently looking for a one-on-one builder and was getting quotes between $150 to $200. That I could and would happily pay, but getting to an actual appointment with a builder never happened. I'm not sure why, but all but one just stopped returning emails. (The one that was ready to make the appointment would've gotten my business except that he didn't have the capabilities for parkerizing on-site.)

I have been advised by those in the know that doing anything involving a receiver, and any money changing hands at this point in time with the current ATF ruling is not advised unless licensed to do so.
The school of nico is closed until things are clarified better.
Others that are accepting payment for use of shop, tools, and tutoring may wish to rethink how much they enjoy their freedom.
Words to the wise.

Honestly I would love to help and teach you if it didn't put my freedom and my family in danger but you're asking someone to give up about 8-10 hours of their Saturday as well as provide aproximately $1500 worth of tooling (some of which may get broken during your build) for a case of beer (and I don't drink BTW) and a dinner?
